On Tuesday 28th May at 2pm, members of the Hybrid Local History Group at Southwark Pensioners’ Centre will welcome Claire Hegarty, Independent Chair of Peckham Heritage Regeneration Partnership, when she will speak about:

“Peckham’s Heritage - Past, Present and Future”.

Claire will give her presentation via Zoom. We will either join her from the meeting room at Southwark Pensioners’ Centre or you can join from home.

“Claire Hegarty is an architect and a director at Butler Hegarty Architects, specialising in the conservation of historic buildings and environments.

Claire lives in north London, and became closely involved with Peckham and its communities through her work as the independent chair of the Peckham Heritage Regeneration Partnership (PHRP) from 2016 - 2024.

The PHRP was part of the broader Peckham Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI). Through the THI, nine historic buildings in Peckham town centre were restored, and alongside, the Peckham PHRP developed a range of projects to support and encourage community involvement in Peckham’s built and social heritage.

"Peckham’s Heritage - Past, Present and Future”, was published in Spring 2024. This collaborative book by Derek Kinrade, Benedict O’Looney and the PHRP, was the final THI project. With the completion of the THI, the PHRP has evolved into a new local community group - Peckham Heritage - to carry on the work of the THI and the PHRP, and explore and support the various forms of heritage in Peckham.”
