I'm Back!
Things are changing everywhere and this seems like the safest place right now.
It’s been a while since I posted here; I spend my time on Twitter and Linkedin and have a newsletter for Treehugger, and it seemed that I had no time for Substack after my book “Living the 1.5 Degree Lifestyle” was published. But everything is changing; we may be abandoning Twitter, the Treehugger newsletter may get automated, and I like Substack’s new chat feature.
I also have a new book coming next year, which I label “Carbon Upfront,” although it is New Society Publishers that ultimately name the book. It’s all about the carbon emitted upfront from making things, and comes out of my pretentiously named upfront rule of carbon:
As our buildings and products become more efficient and we decarbonize the electricity supply, emissions from embodied carbon will increasingly dominate and approach 100% of emissions.
There will be lots more to come about the book and my research, but here’s a post I wrote it: The 'Ironclad Rule of Carbon' Means We Have to Change How We Think About Design.
