Little Thoughts About...Issue #23

December and 2024 Wrap up

December Wrap Up

Month Wrap-Up Summary Graphic, Square Format, Page 1. The image shows books read, pages read, and hours listened to during the month, average book length and average time to finish a books, and pages/minutes per day.

The Mirror (The Lost Bride Trilogy #2) by Nora Roberts
I’m fully invested in this haunted house and how this group is going to exorcise the evil spirit while keeping all the good ones. I don’t even care about the romance stories at this point, I just want book 3 to solve it all now! Like any good Roberts book, there is solid world building and character development on top of a compelling story.

The Shots You Take by Rachel Reid (2025 pub date)
I got this as an ARC and I’m going to do a special newsletter to write a full review, but I loved it and will be buying a copy when it gets published.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
This is a reread for me and it’s also a book club pick for this month. When I first read it, I hadn’t had my breakdown, hadn’t started therapy, and hadn’t connected the dots on why this book resonated with me. Now I’m on the other side and can say, it’s that feeling of just being in your life, but not fully experiencing it. Feeling disconnected from everything and everyone because you are under a bell jar. Therapy and medication has lifted that for me and I only wish that Sylvia could have gotten the help she needed.

2024 Wrap Up

First Book - Mr. McCaslin by Peter S Beagle (Episode of LeVar Burton Reads)

Last Book - The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Longest Book - Wayward by Chuck Wendig (803 pages)

Shortest Book - All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury (4 pages)

The average length of the books you read was 280 pages and it took you around 9 days to finish each book!

This due to the fact that it took me 287 days to read Empire of the Sum: The Rise and Reign of the Pocket Calculator by Keith Houston. I’m reading another of his books this year, and hopefully faster!

As 2024 ended I only had 2 books left in the Murderbot Diaries. As of this post I only have 1 left. I picked up my readthrough of Grace Burrowes in chronological order across her series and have finally gotten to books that I do not already own! And do we even have to talk about Nora? If she publishes a book, I’m reading it.

You decided not to finish 4 of the books you picked up this year.

  • The Children on the Hill by Jennifer McMahon

  • A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham

  • White Ivy by Susie Yang

  • Totally Pucked by Paris Wynters

There were a lot of dark mysterious thriller type books in the list for my book clubs in 2024 and it’s not really my type of book, so it was rough going for me which is partially why I DNF 3 of these books. I rather DNF then force myself to read something that just isn’t my thing. Hockey romances are my thing but I just couldn’t with this one. It’s one of these books that I felt tried to be too many tropes at once and it just lost me.
