August Wrap Up!
StoryGraph has a new feature with a few different infographics to share your monthly wrap up. I’m thinkin of sharing this, instead of doing a book by book rating. I like this image over ones that show all the book covers because I listen to the LeVar Burton Reads podcast, and all the stories/episodes have the same cover art so you can’t really tell them apart.
Looking over these stats, I had to laugh at the 26 days to finish a book. This average is skewed because I FINALLY finished Empire of the Sum! I really did enjoy the book, there was a lot of information and some if it was boring, but I learned a lot which is always a plus for me reading a nonfiction book. 4 Stars, can’t wait to read his other books!
People we Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry - 4.5 Stars
This was my July selection for the Romance Trope Reading Challenge. It completed July’s trope of Friends to Lovers. I really enjoyed this story and liked the way it was set up with the flash back to prior trips with the slow burn of finding out what happened on that last trip. I loved the chemistry between the two of them, like even with the awkwardness they are still so connected. Only lost half a star because I don’t see me rereading it, but highly recommend it.
The Women by Kristin Hannah - 4 Stars
I’m hit or miss with her books, but my friends were raving about this one so I had to read it. So happy to get a women in war story that is not a WW2 setting. I didn’t like a few of the story lines, and felt it dragged in some areas, but overall a really good book and as normal for her books had me crying at the end.
The Prospects by KT Hoffman - 4 Stars
This book checked a lot of boxes for me - sports, romance, LGBTQ+ characters and storylines and an enemies to lovers trope. The only thing keeping this book from being a 4.5/5 book was that I just felt like there was just a lot crammed into the story when it comes too all those checked boxes. That said go read this book!

Hell’s Princess: The Mystery of Bell Gunness, Butcher of Men by Harold Schechter
This has been on my Kindle for some time and I finally decided it was time to read it. It’s a fascinating read about an early 1900s serial killer. She conned men into giving her money and then she killed them, and then she ‘died’ and totally framed someone to take the fall for her death. This is my opinion at where I’m at in the book, maybe I watch too much Snapped, but it’s feels like this would be a special 2 hour episode of the show!West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge
This is September’s book club pick. I was unsure about this one but I’m sucked in to it and really enjoying it. Rutledge took a true story and gave it a fictional tale with real people and newspaper clips. Check out the San Diego Zoo’s page. I’m only like 9 chapters in, but hope to really get into the book this weekend.
