Little Thoughts About ... Issue #28
May Wrap Up

May was a crazy busy month. My supervisor was out on medical leave so work was extra busy doing my own job and a good chunk of hers. When I got home from work there wasn’t much I wanted to do besides zone out with a sports game on the TV.
Book Clubs:
James by Percival Everett
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the English Major in me was overjoyed that our book club discussion felt a bit like college class. A lot of deep thoughts on Jim’s progression from Jim to James, the way the Everett wrote and used his female characters, and the general vibes of the book.
The Wedding People by Alison Espach
This book was for my more social we’re eating and having wine book club. We had a lot of fun just talking about all the over the top situations that occur in this book. We also all liked the ending even if we didn’t all like the book.
Reading Challenges:
-Read Books By/About Puerto Ricans - Poetry/Prose
Thresholes by Lara Mimosa Montes
My main issue with this book and why it wasn’t 3 stars even though it was a good story and I liked the writing was the disjointed feeling of the book between the two stories. The first part of the book is about a group of people on Puerto Rico after a hurricane deviates the already devastated island. Then there is a time jump and a location jump and it feels like you are reading a completely different story. By the time the two stories come together it felt a bit forced.

Unmasked: My Life Solving America’s Cold Cases by Paul Holes
This one’s been on my TBR list since it came up in 2022 and this challenge prompt finally got me to read it. I enjoyed this book. It was a good split between memoir and true crime informational especially about the Golden State Killer case.
