Little Thoughts About... #9

So...I'm back?

So like I predicted in last year’s first issue, I did not keep up with publishing the newsletter for a full year, but I want to try again. I don’t know what this year will bring but I’m ready to try again if you’re willing to read again!

2023 Wrap Up

I read 78 books, short of my 100 goal, but it was a solid year of reading. Here are some of my favorites in no particular order

  • Icebreaker by A. L. Graziadei

  • Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

  • Th1rt3en by Steve Cavanagh

  • Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor

  • Pageboy by Elliot Page

  • Spare by Prince Harry

  • Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby

  • Desmond by Ulysses Grant Dietz

  • The Change by Kirsten Miller

  • The Gentleman’s Book of Vices by Jess Everlee

What I’m currently Reading

  • Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree

This is the prequel to Legends & Lattes. I’m about 70% done with the book and it’s just as good as L&L. Viv is early in her career and she’s injured and left to heal in this little seaside town. She makes friends and while not out adventuring like she wants to be, she’s still involved in quite an adventure. I’m really hoping for a sequel to L&L and hope that these characters might show up to see how much Viv has grown from this point in her life.

  • Emma by Jane Austen

This is a reread but my region of the Jane Austen Society of North America is discussing Emma and related works this year. Emma was the first Austen I read and will always hold a special place in my heart. She’s not my favorite leading lady, but she has such a good heart that I really can’t be mad at her for too long.

Every time I reread an Austen work I discover something new, wonder what it will be this time? I’ll keep you updated!

  • Empire of the Sum: The Rise and Reign of the Pocket Calculator by Keith Houston

I started this one back in November, it’s been a slow read for me, but I find it all so interesting. I maxed out my library’s checkout period and decided to just buy a copy. Part of my interest in this book is because my dad would have loved it, that’s what got me to pick the book up and then I started reading it and it just pulled me in.
