OpenAI keeps hitting reset. Burn your Codex allowance while it lasts

TL;DR: OpenAI's Codex lead promised a feature or a full usage reset every day for 28 days. Five resets have landed so far, and the run goes until about Nov 1. Don't ration your Codex allowance right now.

The big one: Codex's 28-day reset spree

On Oct 4, Codex lead Tibo Sottiaux posted:

"Over the next 28 days, each day we'll either ship one thing that is a clear improvement and relevant for most codex/work users or ship a full reset."

Source

Day 2 was Oct 6, so the run should end about Nov 1. Through Day 11, five days were resets for Codex and ChatGPT Work:

Day Date What happened
2 Oct 6 Community voted for a reset over four new features (post)
3 Oct 7 A banked reset loaded into every paid account, to use whenever you want (post)
6 Oct 10 Global reset (post)
8 Oct 12 Global reset (post)
10 Oct 14 Global reset (post)

The other days shipped features instead, including: - 500k default context for GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex and Work, up from 272k (Day 7) - Instant steering, so the model picks up your corrections right away (Day 4) - Far fewer "Selected model is at capacity" errors. When one does happen, the run should continue on its own (Day 11)

Why it matters: with a reset every two or three days, unused allowance usually gets wiped before you'd miss it. While the run lasts, run the big refactors and long agent jobs now.

Cursor's new pricing, in brief

Cursor is now part of The X Subscription. The plans are Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200, with 1x / 4x / 15x / 50x weekly pools of Grok usage shared across Cursor and Grok. On Premium and up, Claude, GPT and other third-party models in Cursor cost API list price through top-ups. Legacy Pro $20, Pro+ $60 and Ultra $200 keep working for existing subscribers. Switching is optional and permanent. New signups opened Oct 12.

Quick hits

  • DevPass cut included usage from 3x to 2x the plan price on Oct 15. It also added a rolling 24-hour cap (8–10% of monthly credits) and tighter weekly caps on premium models. Prices are unchanged. New subscribers get 2x now; existing ones move at their first renewal. source
  • Free SWE-2 in Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf) ends this week. Devin's docs say Oct 15 and its pricing page says Oct 16. After that it's $3 per 1M input tokens and $15 per 1M output tokens, drawn from your quota. docs · pricing
  • Claude Code's new "wrap-up allowance." If you hit your 5-hour limit mid-response, Claude Code can briefly finish the step it's on. Pro gets this once per week; Max gets it at each 5-hour limit. It counts toward your weekly limit and is rolling out gradually. source
  • GPT-5.5 left Codex (ChatGPT sign-in) on Oct 14. API-key sessions aren't affected. source
  • Reminder: grandfathered ChatGPT Pro $200 subscribers drop to the 10x Plus allowance on Oct 30. source

What to do this week

  1. On Codex? Spend your allowance freely until about Nov 1. If you got the Oct 7 banked reset, save it for a heavy day.
  2. On legacy Cursor Pro or Pro+? Don't switch until you know how much of your work is Grok and how much is Claude or GPT. You can't undo the switch.
  3. On DevPass? Check when you renew. That's when your allowance drops to 2x.
