Liberation 2 is out today!

Hi everyone,

After months of work and countless improvements and new features, I’m excited to introduce Liberation 2! A major update with new creative tools, more expressive live control and closer integration with lighting consoles and video software.

New creative possibilities

A major expansion of Liberation’s creative toolkit, and many interface refinements. We've added new ways to build shapes, import graphics and animations, and experiment with colour and movement.

Record your performance with the improved timeline

New and improved timeline

Capture live clip playback and effect changes, then refine your show on the redesigned timeline. Or design your show block by block - once your audio and tempo are matched, everything locks in automatically.

Lighting console support

Control each zone as an independent fixture from your lighting console, with direct control over clips, colour, position and effects via Art-Net or sACN.

Mapping and zoning

New mapping features and auto distribution

Distribute graphics automatically across multiple lasers with a new and complex sorting algorithm. New line and curve zones give you more control when mapping onto balconies and low ceilings. Smart segmented grids let you pin the points you need while the others interpolate automatically, and gradient masks add smooth fades.

Gradient masks

New gradient masks
New circle and quad masks with gradient edges

Add Quad or Circle / Ellipse masks directly to your laser output window independently of zones. Now with a super simple interface to add gradients to the edges.

Liberation Video Laser

New depth model makes clean outlines with an ordinary webcam

Convert a video stream live from a camera or NDI feed into laser outlines in real time. Machine learning generates depth maps from 2D images to help extract clean outlines, with multiple tracing algorithms and settings to refine the results.

Bring your graphics to life

Paste vector artwork directly from Inkscape or import SVG files. Add animation with SVG sequences or Lottie files, with smooth Lottie playback at any speed. Use your favourite TrueType or OpenType fonts, or choose from 56 included single-stroke fonts optimised for lasers.

Connect your creative tools

Exchange graphics with TouchDesigner and MadMapper via PONK, send visuals to video software via NDI, or generate vector graphics in your own applications with the new Liberation SDK.

Start building your show today

As always, you can design, save and preview complete shows for free, with no time limits and no limit on the number of lasers in the 3D visualiser. A paid licence unlocks laser and DMX output.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped test these features and shared feedback along the way. I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with them.

All the best,

Seb
