New in Lex: Comments + AI Rewrite!
Hey! Nathan here, with two big new Lex features for you.
To learn more, watch this video—or keep reading!
Feature 1: Comments
You can now leave comments on documents! Just highlight some text and click the "Add Comment" button that appears in the right margin of the page on desktop, and in the header toolbar on mobile. It's similar to Google Docs comments, with a few key enhancements:
- You can write draft comments and come back to them later before publishing. This is really helpful when you're reading through a document and giving feedback. Sometimes you realize a comment you left early in the draft would benefit from context you only gained after reading further into the document!
- Navigate between comments using your arrow keys. It can be a pain to wade through all the comments by pointing and clicking. With Lex you can stay on the keyboard!
- Works smoothly on mobile web. For some reason few (no?) other word processors have a smooth mobile web experience for commenting. That always bugged me. So I fixed it.
Feature 2: AI Rewrite
If you ever have a sentence or paragraph that you think is kind of lame but you're not sure how to fix it, you can now just highlight the text and click the "AI Rewrite" button. The AI will leave a comment with a suggestion for a rewrite.
Fun easter egg: if you highlight just one word, the AI will give you a list of synonyms :)
The goal behind all of this
So what does all of this mean? What am I building towards? Here is the overall philosophy:
Anytime you sit down to write, you have a goal in mind. There is some reason you are doing the work. Maybe you just want to understand a concept more deeply. Maybe you're writing a scene in a novel and you want it to evoke a specific emotion. Maybe you're writing sales copy and you want to convert prospects into customers.
Whatever your reason for writing, my goal for Lex is to increase the probability that you'll achieve your goals. Right now the features that help this are really simple, but this year I'll be spending all my time building more and more advanced features into the AI that hopefully will give you wildly useful feedback and suggestions for your writing.
How to use Comments and AI Rewrite today:
Just go to https://lex.page and login with this email (), and you can create new documents or edit existing ones, and use the new features now.
If you want to send a document to a colleague or friend for their comments, just click the "share" button in the top right, copy the "edit link", and send it to them. (The "view" link doesn't let readers leave comments.)
When you share a link to a document with someone who's not already on Lex, they can edit that document and leave comments on it, but they're still otherwise on the waitlist and can't create documents of their own.
Bonus—you now have 3 extra invites!
To celebrate the release of comments, I've granted everyone 3 extra invites! So if there's anyone you want to collaborate with you can give them access to Lex by logging into https://lex.page and scrolling down until you see the "You Have N Invites" section.
Thanks so much, and I can't wait to hear what you think!
