Introducing Lex V2
Hey! Nathan here, founder of Lex (https://lex.page), the modern writing platform with AI editing tools built in.
Big, big update for you this week!
Over the next several weeks, we're rolling out a series of five major releases that will significantly improve Lex. So much so, that we’ve come to think of them as collectively forming Lex V2.
Today, the first of those five releases:

But first, a quick note: if you use Gmail, you probably missed our last newsletter! (Our email provider had a bug that caused Google to flag it as spam.) Click here if you want to catch up! The most exciting update was probably voice-to-text in Ask Lex.
With that business settled, on with today’s releases!
1. A fresh start (page)
When you fire up https://lex.page, here’s what you’ll see:
LEX V2 — part 1 of 5
— Nathan Baschez (@nbashaw) April 3, 2025
We redesigned and rebuilt our start page from the ground up https://t.co/TNGyfoLzsm pic.twitter.com/sHhXtdRBQN
You may notice a few major differences from the old design:
One click to open a chat in Ask Lex, for those of you who like to start by chatting
The documents list has moved to the sidebar, where you can expand and collapse folders inline rather than viewing folders on separate pages.
You can now pin documents and folders.
There’s a lot more detail to it too, and we’ll keep polishing over the coming days! Please report any rough edges if you see them.
Do you like Lex? Want to use the best AI models? Want to support our work?
One thing we've learned from talking to thousands of writers: those that experience Lex's full capabilities, driven by the most powerful AI models, tend to make it their primary writing tool. That's why we're now offering a week of Pro access, on the house.
As a reminder, Pro users get:
Access to the newest and most powerful AI models
20x more AI usage
Web search results, powered by Perplexity
Unlimited edit history
If you’ve been curious about the difference that Lex Pro makes, you can get access now by clicking the link below:
2. Connect with Google Drive
You asked, we listened!
Import: pull Google Docs or pdfs from your Drive into Lex—both to use as a starting point for a Lex document or to add them to Ask Lex’s AI background knowledge.
Export: send Lex documents to your Google Drive.
Now you can work more smoothly with friends or coworkers who aren’t ready to make the switch to Lex :)
3. Rewrite - but useful this time
Remember our old "rewrite" feature? You’d highlight a sentence and Lex would rephrase it. From a distance it seemed impressive, but it wasn’t that useful in practice.
There are infinite reasons you’d want to rework a sentence — maybe it’s too long, or the word choice doesn’t fit, or you want swap out a repetitive word. Rewrite had a chance at solving your issue, but you had no way of pointing it at the problem.
We’ve made it much better. Here’s how:
Highlight any text in a Lex doc
Click ‘Edit” (or cmd/ctrl + E)
Describe the revision you’d like (by typing or talking)

This is just the start—much more coming soon :)
4. An empathic, expensive genius (GPT-4.5 + limits)
We love Open AI’s newest model. It’s responses are smart, it’s great at capturing voice, and it’s shockingly empathetic. It’s also ~10x more expensive than other premium AI models 😵
We’ve decided to add limits to AI usage. Two reasons: first, to add GPT-4.5 without breaking the bank. Second, we noticed a tiny group of users were responsible for a huge percentage of our costs.
To make this work, in the least disruptive way possible, we’ve set our limits super high (way beyond the cost of Pro). In this last month, less than 3.5% of active Pro users hit them.
If you do pass the limit, you’re able to keep using Lex by covering the extra AI costs (no markup from us).
If you want to know a bit more about how these costs work, check out this guide. Especially if you want to give 4.5 a try, highly recommend giving it a quick read!
Those are our first set of updates for Lex v2!
Stay tuned for more over the coming weeks.
As always, we love hearing from you. Hit reply with any questions or feedback!
