3️⃣ Things + Widgets in Defer
Hey! It’s Thursday. You made it.
If nobody’s told you today, you’re doing an awesome job.
First some updates on Defer then three tips coming your way.
Defer Updates: Widgets & UI Refresh
Alright, I get it. You Type-A folks out there want to "check off" the tasks in Defer. Fine! So be it!
Ok actually I agree. No need to yell. Calm down.
Now in Defer, there's a little circle next to each task so you can check it off, and verbiage has changed throughout the app from "deleting" a task to "completing" it. Feels like more of an accomplishment, ya know? And we could all use more little victories. Go forth and complete those tasks.
Aaaaaand Defer now has widgets! If you want to look at your tasks all the time, now you can.
3 Tips
The Courage to Be Disliked
One of my favorite “self-help” books, which is impressive given its cheesy format (a Socratic debate between a “philosopher” and a “youth”). And the title, while eye-catching, is a bit of a misnomer: more than anything, this book is an accessible primer on the Stoic-like principles of Adlerian Psychology. Look past the corny structure and superlative marketing to discover profound principles like the “separation of tasks”, “pursuing community feeling”, and teleology.
Todoist: my task management app of choice
I built Defer to be a simple “task inbox”, not a full-blown task management system. For most of my work tasks, I still generally use Todoist (after I’ve initially captured them in Defer, of course). It’s got enough flexibility to handle my idiosyncrasies and I like the company’s vibe.
Dense Discovery
How about a little newsletter cross-promotion? I've followed Kai's work since the Offscreen Magazine days, and his Dense Discovery newsletter is one of the few I consistently read (not to mention an influence on my own newsletter). Each issue is a well-designed collection of tools, books, quotes, articles, and the like, generally in the tech, design, or sustainability space.
