Vote. Vote. Vote.
Well, hi.
I’d love to say the lack of newsletters lately is because I’ve been working hard on a project or something, but that’s only a little bit true. Is anyone finishing anything anymore? This year has been exhausting on just about every human scale upon which exhaustion can be measured. We’re all discovering new ways to be tired. We’re all so…wrung-out.
I’ve been waiting for tomorrow to come for the last four million years. Now that it’s arrived, I’m extremely anxious, because I can’t predict how this will go. The integrity of the U.S. election process is in doubt. There’s a fence going up around the White House. There are votes being thrown away, voters being terrorized, lawyers mobilizing for battle, National Guardspeople on standby. More than 231,000 people are dead, and still people argue that masks are optional. Every day comes another wave of frightening headlines to throw on the pile. None of this is normal. None of it is okay.
Tomorrow matters. Ignore any polls you’ve seen that declare your preferred winner the victor. Ignore the reports that election results will be challenged or thrown out. This is all up to you and me and everyone we know now. If you haven’t already, vote. If you have a mail-in ballot, don’t put it in the mail; it’s too late for that. Deliver it to a ballot box instead. If you don’t plan to vote by mail, do your part tomorrow and stand in line, masked-up and vigilant. Use your voice. Insist that none of this is okay.
Vote. Vote. Vote.
