🚀The Dark Age: Summer goals, and an excerpt
Well, hello, friends!
I've set myself a goal. It would be irresponsible of me to share that goal here, so that's what I'm going to do: I'm going to finish a draft of The Dark Age by the end of summer.
In a week I'll be delivering a draft of my ghostwriting project to my editor. There's no way to know how much revision lies ahead, but while I wait for his feedback, The Dark Age will get all of my writing attention. Feels good to realize that: If I'm writing, I'll be writing that.
Is summer achievable? It absolutely is. From a purely technical perspective, this is going to be a short novel. Maybe half the length of something like Eleanor, give or take ten thousand words. If I continue to write daily, moving this book forward a little at a time, then yes, it can be done by summer's end. Last month, as you might recall, I took a week away from work. I focused on writing the ending and the islands, and on drafting a fresh outline. That week answered so many questions I still had about this project. I understand it better now than I did before; when I sit and work on it, I know where every scene is leading. So long as I don't screw up my routine, the book will be written by my self-appointed deadline.
