🚀The Dark Age: Juggling two novels
Hello, friends!
I'm writing this as a week-long break comes to a close. I think here at Hill House we're all a little bummed to see it wind down. It's been a wonderful week for us all. Squish had several virtual gaming playdates; Felicia broke out the roller skates; I got a lot of writing done.
As it ends I'm thinking about what's next. On Monday, I'll return to my ghostwriting project, and begin revising it into a draft suitable to deliver to my editor. But I'm also thinking about how to keep The Dark Age from going onto a shelf while I do that work. It's impossible for me to properly juggle two novel projects with all of my other obligations. But what if there was a small way to keep The Dark Age warm?
By my count, over the last two years of exploratory work on The Dark Age, I've produced about 140,000 words of material. That's a whole novel and then some. But the operative word here is exploratory. Across that sea of pages I've tinkered with point of view, structure, narrative arcs.
