🚀The Dark Age: Blowing up race cars
Hi, friends!
Lately I’m thinking a lot about foreshadowing and echoes.
Recently I watched Ford v. Ferrari again. I love this movie. It shows up to do a job, it does its job in the most thrilling yet unflashy way imaginable, and then it goes home. Have you seen it? It’s the story of the Ford Motor Company’s efforts to defeat Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Ford, you see, has an image problem: Compared to Ferrari they’re dullards. The young folks, they all want flashy sports cars these days, see. To win that market, Ford has to make a statement, redefines itself. To do that, it hires car designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles to build a car that will beat Ferrari.
I want to talk about a particular scene in this movie, so if you haven’t seen it, feel free to skip this particular newsletter!
