The Inaugural Issue
LLTT - Issue #1 - 01 April 2023
Welcome to our inaugural issue.
Let's Love Teeline Together has provided Teeline shorthand lessons via our YouTube channel since 2020. Whether you're studying an NCTJ accredited course or simply want to be able to take notes at speed, our Beginners Series was made with you in mind. You'll then move on to our Speed Development lessons which will deepen your understanding of Word Groupings and build your confidence with the cornerstone of shorthand - dictation - all the way to 100 WPM. Finally, our mock Examination Series will help prepare you for your NCTJ exams. We also have more than one hundred graded audio dictations on Soundcloud to hone your dictation skills and test your mettle.
Our first issue focuses on putting a spotlight on the two Instructors behind it all: Jo Goodall and Rosalie Watts. Nothing beats a great teacher. Make no mistake, the right teacher is a force multiplier in your learning.
If you want to learn Teeline shorthand, really learn Teeline, then you owe it to yourself to learn from two of the very best in the Teeline world, without whom legions of students would not be as successful.
It is a fact that in almost every field of endeavor, top performers were mentored, influenced by, or otherwise connected to other top performers.
See what some of our students have said.
LLTT- The Website
The Let's Love Teeline Together website was officially launched on 30 January 2023, and we are proud to say there is nothing like it in the Teeline community! Our aim in creating the site was to bring together all of the necessary ingredients for learning Teeline. No matter what your learning style is we have something for you.
"One of the biggest keys to success at anything hard is believing that you can figure it out as you go along." - Shane Parrish
Whether your goal is to start from scratch, increase your current speed or figure out how to pass your first (or next) shorthand exam, this freely available resource will help you get to where you want to go. We are committed to building out the best-in-class Teeline experience on the web.
Be sure to check out our Teeline Resources section. For the first time, a complete list of all published Teeline books has been assembled in one place. We have also highlighted some useful web resources on this page to enhance your learning experience.
Recent website updates
Over the past sixty days, we've added several new and exciting areas to the site.
The Let's Love Teeline Together Blog
If you haven't seen our blog, you are missing out! We post regularly and if you are serious about improving your Teeline, look no further. All of our content is tagged by topic to help you find what you need, when you need it.
While you're at it, add our RSS feed to your favorite newsreader (suggestions include Newsblur, Feedly, Inoreader, Feedbin or Vivaldi).
If court reporting sounds interesting, that's because it is! Taught by Rosalie, these sessions aim to give you an experience of "reporting the courts" and are a great way to build speed and stamina, as well as providing that all-important opportunity to brush up on your shorthand revision.
Prior to the dictation, Rosalie begins with a discussion of certain words, groupings and special outlines that may apply. After the dictation, there is a full passage discussion. Check out her latest class here: "Mother And Daughter Attempted To Steal High-End Beauty Products."
If your aim is to increase your Teeline shorthand speed, then know word groupings are the KEY. This special playlist consists of highly informative videos that are typically 10 minutes or less. Try one of our favorites and see if you don't agree - "Historian Talks About Encyclopaedias and Computer Screens."
Two New Playlists: Coffee Break and Lunch Break
Additionally, we recently started two new playlists on our YouTube Channel, taught by Jo, that should fit even the busiest of schedules. While the Coffee Break videos can typically be consumed in five minutes or less, Lunch Break will require more time and focus; from 30 minutes to an hour. Add them to your repertoire.
Never get discouraged - keep on keeping on, remembering that others have gone through the same stage(s) and have beaten it. - Harry Butler
Quizlet
We discuss the use of flashcards on our site. When used appropriately, flashcards can be a powerful tool in your learning arsenal.
We currently have four sets of flashcards on Quizlet totaling almost 300 cards. You can find them here.
"If you add only a little to a little and do this often, soon that little will become great." - Hesiod
Reading Practice
We're going to wrap up this newsletter with some Teeline reading practice. See how quickly you can read the mock examination passage below entitled "Resignations at the Parish Council."
But before you do:
Grab your stopwatch (or use the one on your phone).
Record how much time it takes for you to read through it cold the first time.
Then do it again and see if you can beat it.
And finally, repeat for a third time.
You should find each successive pass shaves seconds off the clock and by the third pass, you'll have substantially improved. This is not mere child's play. Reading printed Teeline is critical to developing greater facility with shorthand. Each time you go through this type of exercise, you are firmly imprinting the outlines into your mind. In this manner, reading Teeline will help you to ultimately write better Teeline.
"Being a successful student is far more about being a smart user of effective strategies than about being 'smart.' Indeed, we can predict how well a student will do simply on the basis of their use of study strategies. Forget intelligence. Forget hours put in. What is important is your use of effective study strategies." - Fiona McPherson, PhD
