Is having good health, a quiet mind, and “slow mornings” a luxury? 🙂
There are those including popular authors and social media influencers who will have you believe that having good health, a quiet mind, and slow mornings are a luxury. But, is that true?
Is having good health a luxury? Is having daily restful sleep a luxury or a necessity? Can a car run on an empty gas tank? Can our devices work without recharging them? Without taking care of our health first, can we do anything? Without taking care of ourselves, can we truly serve others?
Is having a quiet mind a luxury? If so, then we haven't even begun living. Why do some of us take a few minutes every day to clear our mind? Can we give anything our full attention when we have things on our mind? And yet, most of us are barely surviving by way of letting our mind use us passively almost all of the time. This is true irrespective of our socio-economic status; it doesn't matter if you are a prince or a pauper or anywhere in between.
Lastly, should you have "slow mornings?" Why is it okay for us to have a quiet start to our days and be okay with being frazzled and frenetic the rest of the time? We might as well be headless chickens running around haphazardly. I don't know of one person who feels good to be rushed. I like what poet, writer, and philosopher, Dante has said:
Haste denies all acts their dignity.
It's not about what (or why) we do as much as it's about how we do anything. The How is kind of the point. It's only when we shift our focus to being, the "doing" takes care of it self. Then, we wouldn't have to focus on having good health, a quiet mind, or slow mornings. We can learn to act with intent with whatever we do. By doing so, we give our full attention to that thing to the exclusion of all else. This way, no one thing is more important than the other. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. 🙂
Best,
