Welcome & Shop Update

Hello!

Thank you for signing up for my mailing list! I should have started one ages ago, before the social media sites I had previously been relying on to share my work began crumbling into whatever they are now (RIP Twitter).

SHOP UPDATE

I have a bunch of work saved up that I will be making available in the shop on Saturday, 2/15 at noon Pacific. A lot of the pieces in this drop are smaller vessels thrown in a black clay and then garnished with small creatures sculpted in white porcelain. The contrast of the two clays is one of my favorite effects, so you may have seen me use it in my biggest gallery pieces as well as tiny vessels like these. The beetles I love so much can be found on a few vases, but there are also frogs, a lizard, a fish, a crab, and a vase covered in reef textures.

That tiny crab with the celadon gloss shell was directly inspired by Sarah Gailey’s essay in their Stone Soup newsletter (a lovely thing to subscribe to). Fun fact: that essay is about their experience at Wayward, the artists’ retreat I run with some extremely brilliant collaborators. So it’s sort of an inspiration circle, which makes me very happy to think about. Related fun fact: Applications to the 2025 Wayward Retreat open on Saturday as well! Anyway, back to the shop update

I’m also offering two beetle-themed sake sets this round, done in the same style, though with glaze lining the inside and rim.

Also in the update is a garden mug as well as a pear vase and two creature friends.

GALLERY UPDATE

Just a very small gallery update this time— I often participate in Nahcotta Gallery’s “Enormous Tiny Art” shows, but this time I wasn’t able to complete the series I wanted to make due to the fires in Los Angeles last month (I live not all that far from the Altadena area, and the air quality kept me from my ceramic workspace, which is outside, for a while). So this time around, I only have one piece in the show, but I like how it turned out.

Nahcotta drops new work from the show every Tuesday at noon Eastern for the next three weeks (2/18, 2/25, 3/4), and this piece will be in one of those drops (They haven’t told me which one, sorry! You can follow their Instagram for updates).

WORKS IN PROGRESS

I should have some fossil mugs back in the shop soon, and I’m playing with carving some sgraffito planters.

I’m also keeping my fingers crossed that firing is kind to this piece, which is headed for a group show in Portland soon.

Thanks again for signing up, and bearing with me as I figure out how to newsletter. More soon!
