Shop Update: Turtle, mini vases & more

Hello!

Let’s do the shop update info first. I have a fossil mug, a Guardian vase, seven little bud vases and one fairly massive turtle getting ready for their shop debut on Saturday 5/24 at 11am Pacific (Measurements for everything will be in the shop descriptions on Friday).

First, the mini porcelain vases, each featuring the type of little creature that I’ve always loved to catch, inspect, and release:

Next, a Mosasaur mug and a Guardian on a vase of carved ripples… Two creatures that no one has ever had the opportunity to catch and inspect (for different reasons).

And finally, the big piece! My box turtle box. As I mentioned in a past email, this creature definitely falls into the category of catchable/inspectable.

I rarely sculpt anything that’s anywhere close to larger than life (I can fit four of the mini vases into this box!), so even though tortoises around the world obviously can be much bigger, the box turtles I based this on tend to stay smaller than this sculpt. The scale gave me a chance to really get lost in the details, and I’m very pleased at how the iron oxide wash picked up all the texture.

Tea4T

In other news, I wanted to give everyone the final tally for the Tea4T fundraiser.

I think that’s pretty darn good for a handful of artists sculpting some little guys! Even little guys can make a difference.

Work in Progress

Many other things are in the works, but I’ve especially enjoyed working on this pitcher.

It’s currently drying extremely slowly, and I’m hoping that’ll be enough to counteract some of the areas that are a little thicker than is strictly ideal. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for reading!
