Shop Update (plus updates on everything else)

Hello!

It’s already mid-October, which is absolutely wild. I’ve recently returned from the 2025 session of the Wayward Retreat, and my next show, INSIDES, opens at Stranger Factory on November 1st. In the meantime, it’s a packed few weeks.

SHOP UPDATE

I’ve got a shop update featuring a handful of Beastlies, a few final Punkin Nibblets, and some wizard toads. Where did these wizard toads come from? Well, while at Wayward, I got inspired by an adorable collaboration where a couple of our wonderful retreaters spontaneously decided to create a teeny tiny little book. It looked to me like a miniature wizard’s tome, so I decided to contribute by sculpting the creature who I thought should own it. It turned out to be a some sort of amphibious sorcerer, and we named him Toadlin the Wise. This kind of thing is one of my favorite parts of Wayward — artists using their talents for and with each other in ways that wouldn’t have happened otherwise, all in the spirit of creative experimentation and play.

Since getting back home, I’ve been fairly focused on getting all my pieces ready for the gallery show. These shows are always important to me, and I can sometimes make myself pretty stressed and wrapped up in making sure everything is as perfect as possible. But with Wayward so recent in my mind, I’ve been counteracting that stress with some creative playtime when I can manage it. So I sat down and decided to sculpt whatever sounded fun and inspiring in the moment. Turned out to be: the Disciples of Toadlin the Wise, class of 2026.

They’re just little guys.

So here they are! Maybe someone else needs a wizard toad in their life as much as I did. They’ll be in the shop with the Beastlies and last Punkin Nibblets of the season on Monday, October 20th at 11am Pacific. All can be previewed now in the shop.

SHOW UPDATE

As I mentioned, the upcoming show is… well, coming up. It’s called INSIDES.

The opening reception at Stranger Factory is in the afternoon 11/1. I’ll be there at the gallery in Algodones, New Mexico (it’s about halfway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe), but if you won’t be, all of the work will be available for purchase online through the gallery. If you want to receive the preview of the show, I recommend getting on their mailing list.

But my show isn’t the only one opening there on that day: My friend and frequent collaborator Shing Yin Khor’s new show ARMOR will be happening at the same time!

We’re going to be roadtripping all the art out together, so come say hello to both of us at the opening if you’re in the area!

Those are the big updates, and this has become a pretty long version of this newsletter, but I can’t let you go without a…

FOSTER KITTEN UPDATE

The litter I’ve been fostering has spent all this time growing, and they’re getting big!

Our sweet Sherbet has been adopted by the best folks ever, and he’s crazy about the two cats who are his new siblings. Here he is with his new bro Sherlock:

They grow up so fast 🥲

We’ve decided to adopt Moose, the goofy little runt of the litter, ourselves, but we’re still looking for homes for the gray twins, Waffle Cone and Scoops, as well as Mint Chip, the gorgeous blue point siamese.

Waffe Cone
Scoops
Mint Chip

All three are extremely sweet, will actively seek out laps to purr in (including those belonging to visitors that they’ve known for five minutes), and are very good with our adult cats. So if you happen to know anyone in the LA area who needs a truly excellent kitten, please apply through Santé D’Or. The kittens will also periodically be at the shelter during open house hours, so hopefully they’ll meet their families soon!

Anyway, thanks for reading! And if you’re out at one of the many demonstrations across the US today, stay hydrated and safe out there!
