Issue #3 - I Found This Under a 🌳
Welcome to issue #3 of Life as a Lemon. Greetings to all the new subscribers from last week! I'm in quarantine with my daughter for the next 10 days due to a close contact in her class (everyone's fine! Tested negative.) so it's been "fun" hanging out in my office and our basement. :)
On to the links!
Link Thought Things
Google announced a bunch of stuff at their annual conference. The thing that's getting a lot of attention is their video calling tech named Project Starline that I'm sure has to be seen in person to really appreciate.
Pixelmator Pro is my graphic / photo image editing app of choice and it's on sale for 50% off right now. Unless you already live in Photoshop, it's worth checking out for macOS based image editing.
I can't believe in 2021 we're still having to fight with TV remotes. Chris Coyier details his journey trying to get an Apple TV remote to control all the things. Bonus: Belkin just announced the Soundform Connect which is basically a modern AirPort Express.
Speaking of Apple things, Apple is upgrading Apple Music to support Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio in June. A bonus for Apple Music subscribers - which I am - is that it's not going to cost anything extra.
Speaking of music, if you use Spotify or Apple Music on your Mac, Sleeve looks like a beautiful Now Playing app to check out. Via BeautifulPixels.com.
One more for macOS users: did you know you can customize what you see in System Preferences? I didn't until I read that article.
This Apple WatchOS Accessibility preview is some Iron Man suit level control. AssistiveTouch for Apple Watch is mind blowing.
For as long as I've been on Twitter (2006), I've wondered why they don't simply charge for a few features instead of depending solely on advertising for income. It looks like they might be adding a Blue subscription service to Twitter with features like "undo tweet", and collections being part of the paid tier.
Podcasting Thought Things
Apparently 38% of Canadians listen to podcasts. Do you listen to podcasts much? Hit reply and let me know which shows you're enjoying. Via Podnews.
Spotify vs Apple: who's the bigger podcast platform?. I still prefer using Pocket Casts to listen and subscribe but am getting more tempted by Spotify's unified platform for music + podcasts.
Picture of the Week
Since we're basement dwellers, the best photo I've taken this week is a screenshot from a Fortnite game I was playing the other night. :) Being a gamer from back in the late 80s, I have to stop and marvel at the amazing worlds video game designers are able to create these days.
That's it for this week!
