🍋 Issue #30 - AI, EH?

Exploring the highs and lows of AI, sharing writing updates, favorite links, and The Rock.

Welcome to issue #30!

Whenever I spend a lot of time with any sort of AI tool, it’s 65% “WOW!” and 35% “Oh crap what do I do now?” I feel smart right until I feel very dumb.

But I think it’s good to feel that very human feeling when you’re using a tool like AI to accomplish tasks you could probably do better and more efficiently yourself.

The AI took definitely won’t feel any shame or humiliation over the mistakes it’s making on your behalf.

Words I Wrote

Links to blog or social media posts I published in the past week. Two posts this week!

  • 6 Months Later: Checking in on Going Back to Basics on the Mac - I wrote about what I’m using for to do tracking, writing, and calendar…ing?
  • Using Antigravity to Code a Raindrop.io to Buttondown App - That sentence either makes complete sense to you, or it’s total nonsense. (Antigravity = Google’s AI coding app, Raindrop = bookmarking service, Buttondown = the web app I use to send this very email out to you.)

Just to show how great it's going, as I went to write this week's email my Raindrop-Markdown "app" stopped working. 😆 And I ran out of tokens to be able to fix it. Smarter folks than I, like Cassidy, have good thoughts on this kind of thing:

Engineering knowledge matters to be able to handle mistakes, and enhance successes. You can offload tasks, you can offload mental space, but you can never offload ownership, because actions have consequences.

Linking to Likes

YouTube videos, blog posts, podcast episodes—whatever I've enjoyed or found interesting over the last few weeks.

  • The MacStories OS 26 App Roundup - A great collection of niche apps for your iPhone or Mac that you didn't know you needed, like an album focused replacement app for Apple Music.
  • We don't do that here - If no one has told you yet, as your career in tech progresses you will eventually become a custodian of culture. This phrase can help.
  • Hand Mirror for Mac - Hand Mirror is exactly what it sounds like—an app that lives in the macOS menubar and when you click it, you get a camera view of yourself to check your hair or for any nose boogers.
  • Grid Paper - Simple web site that allows you to create a printable grid, just like it says on the tin.
  • Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery - Wake Up Dead Man is the third movie in Rian Johnson's Knives Out series. It's getting a limited movie theatre release before hitting Netflix.
  • Color Palette Pro - I love this old school UI color palette generator.
  • Activists Are Using ‘Fortnite’ to Fight Back Against ICE - Turns out my Fortnite addiction is also part of the resistance? 😜
  • 📺 Black Friday Sales on Tech Stephen Actually Uses - Stephen Robles has a good eye (nose?) for tech deals that are actually useful.

This Week at Lemon Productions

It's not always easy to talk about client work when it’s not public yet, but I thought I'd link to episodes I found interesting, or fun things happening in podcasting that I come across.

  • In a meeting with Jason Lengstorf, I noticed he seemed to be dressed like The Rock and so naturally, we recorded a promo for his new podcast. You can catch a sneak peek here. 👀

Picture From My Life

Photo of a record player with an album for Anne Murray Christmas sitting on top of it.
The original Canadian Snowbird has sung.
Now we can get into Christmas mode.

Be curious. Not judgmental. 💖

If you’ve got a question, suggestion, or comment about anything in this email - hit reply and send me a message! 💖 Until next week-ish - thanks for reading!

🍋 Issue #12 - Around the Internet I Must Delve

Welcome to issue #12! Sorry to break the news to you, but summer - at least up here in Canada - is half over. Though the week of 36C / 96F highs are making...
