Chips on a Sandwich | no. 6 | TOUCHY FEELY
Here's your weekly offering of bits of joy. Crunch, Crunch.
tactile-- adjective-- of or connected with the sense of touch.
FIDGET YOUR WORRIES AWAY: Greece knows that touch can calm the mind: born from traditional prayer beads, worry beads are designed to help one twiddle their anxiety/anger/[insert undesirable emotion] away. Komboloi are a looped set of beads in an odd number while begleri are more modern-- a simple even-numbered string-- for busy worriers on the go. Design studio Fredericks & Mae sells beautiful worry beads made from horse hair and wood. They're $200 so you can immediately use them to expel worry about impulse buying.
MOSS IS BOSS: An admitted moss feeler– I can’t take a walk in the woods without petting a patch of the stuff. Its nature’s silk rug. With more than 12,000 known species moss have leaves and stems but no true roots. They use spores (not seeds) to reproduce. They’re an important player on team flora and fauna: absorbing moisture and maintaining humidity. And the names are great– Silky Forklet (my favorite), Swan’s Neck Thyme, Square Goose Neck, Springy Turf and Glittering Wood.

SEA VS. BEACH GLASS: I grew up with a shoe box filled with collected beach glass from the rocky shores of Lake Erie. I loved to hold my treasures and was delighted that they were smoothed by years (sometime up to 100!) of tumbling and churning in water. There's a distinct difference between sea and beach glass: the pH of saltwater leaches out the lime in glass giving it a frosted appearance. Beach (fresh water) glass has a patina that is less opaque. There are groups of sea glass collectors all over the world-- from Italy to Japan-- with red being the most sought-after color.

POLL: Socks on or off when you sleep? [Mustard (only) was the preferred hot dog condiment from last week's poll.]
