A Quick Time Out (For Flowers)
"I like broken heart songs, but this 'aint one of 'em"
So many things to be angry about
Maybe we could take just a quick time out
This week’s Dispatch take’s inspiration from the lyrics in a Joel Plaskett song. I had these lines rattling around in my head recently:
So many things to be angry about
Maybe we could take just a quick time out
I knew they were from a Joel Plaskett song, but I couldn’t recall which one. I enjoyed a close listen to a few of his tunes before I realized the lyrics come from Broken Heart Songs, off the Park Avenue Sobriety Test album.
Maybe we could take just a quick time out. It seems like good advice right now, and it is a piece of wisdom that entered my head as I recently stood and admired hundreds, maybe thousands, of yellow monkey flowers in bloom.
So, instead of a Dispatch filled with concerns and complaints (about the past, or the present), you will find some pictures of flowers I have taken in recent weeks. Like Joel says, I like broken heart songs, but this ‘aint one of ‘em. Our engagement with the troubles of the world can take a pause for flowers.
