It Has Been A Minute
Note: While this is a G-Rated Newsletter, it does talk about sex, sexuality, kink, and non-monogamy in an educational context. Consider yourself warned.
If you appreciate my work to create accessible sexuality and relationship education, now is a great time to donate! Your donations help me provide sliding scale coaching to other members of the community and help me keep my workshops affordable!
Sorry I missed the last few months of newsletters friends. I’m going to try to at least get something with my upcoming classes out each month going forward. It was a wacky last few months of graduate school rejections, classes finishing, and contemplating life choices.
For anyone new, in addition to all my coaching and education work, I am a full time student. I’m finishing up my BA in Psychology and am about to be the first person in my family to graduate from University when I get my degree this October! That’s the good/great news!
The challenging news is that I have been receiving a steady flow of rejections to grad school. Initially the plan was to go into social work and expand how I help people one-on-one. It appears that the universe has decide that this isn’t the path for me. What initially felt like a disaster now feels like an opportunity though, and I’m excited that I’m going to be in school in the Fall studying educational pedagogy. The new plan is to learn more about how we create safer learning spaces for everyone, especially queer folks, disabled folks, and black and brown folks. I’m excited and optimistic about this adjustment, though it does add to my educational timeline. I think this is going to expand both how I teach for my existing communities and how I contribute to new community spaces.
Are We Bleeding Bright Enough When We Ask For Support?
Speaking of the application process, this TEDTalk by Tina Yong was a great articulation of something I didn’t have the language for previously.
I think this rise of the “trauma essay” is part of something larger. For those of us in under-resourced communities, we are often expected to wear our harms on our sleeves. To continually prove our worthiness for equity efforts. To be a “model queer” who was resilient through adversity. Someone who holds no grudges, continues to be positive, and deserves societal support. As I apply to grad school, jobs, grants, and other supports, I am often asked to unload my hurts to get a scrap of compassion and care.
You Better Fuck In This Dystopia
This poem by Gisselle Yepes took up a lot of space in my brain this week. Sex, love, connection, and pleasure are all acts of rebellion in a world that’s trying to kill us.
Upcoming Events For July!
Lots of online workshops for kinksters coming up this month! As always, we are managing registration through Eventbrite!
July 5th I’ll be running my free Introduction to Power Exchange workshop! Attend live for free, or for $10 you can also look at the recording afterwards. Only 100 spots available, so hurry up and register! This is a great space to learn about power exchange-based kinky relationships!
My very popular Knowing Ourselves As Submissives is a great workshop where we discuss submissive identity and how to know what we want in our power exchange relationships as submissive people. You’ll leave with lots of ideas on how to communicate your desires and how to explore submissive identity in an intentional way. This is always such a lively, engaging class and one of my favourites to teach!
The Hallmarks of Exceptional Power Exchange is a brand-new class I’m so excited to be debuting! on July 24th we’ll have a chat about what it looks like to have healthy, loving connections with our partners in power exchange. We’ll talk about the keys to all healthy relationships and how those signals show up in kinky relationships. I’ve been working on this one for a while and I’m so thrilled to be able to finally share this class with you!
