Leaflet alpha - send doc updates with mailboxes!
We just launched an experimental new feature that we think is fun, powerful…and a little weird!
It's called mailboxes, and it's a way to send readers updates — a simple note or image, an entire essay, or anything in between — from any Leaflet doc.
We think it’s great for any document you want people to regularly return to!
That means: lightweight pop-up newsletters.
📬
That means: quickly ping collaborators.
📬
That means: DIY event updates.
📬
That means: easy ways for groups to publish.
📬
That means…well, we're hoping you can play around with it — we'd love to see what mailbox magic you invent!
How it works:
creators can add a mailbox block to any page
readers can subscribe for updates (by email; soon SMS as well)
creators can add a new post and send it to subscribers
creators see how many people subscribed; contact info stays private
This is a proof of concept for a new doc-block paradigm. We're excited about blocks that aren't just about adding / styling content, but can make documents more dynamic — and in particular, more social.
Try it here — subscribe to our R&D mailbox to hear when we add new posts on questions we’re exploring.
In other news, we recently hosted a manifesto writing event, and it was a lot of fun! You can see what people wrote here:
Making Manifestos!
This is a collaborative collection of manifestos generated from a Leaflet Session on 8.19.24 at the Brooklyn Public Library.
We want to do more events — for our next one, we're thinking of a mini-hackathon to invent new custom block types. Reply if you're in NYC and that sounds interesting :)
