Pixel Lattepunk
Lattepunk
I’ve been occupied this week (reevaluating how I use my productivity tools to avoid this happening again) so I couldn’t deep dive into a topic. But alas, dear reader, I’ll always make time for you.
Question is, what topic could I cover quickly? Epstein island visitors are boring. Diddy used a private jet allegedly. 73 million AT&T customers got their data leaked. I mean, really, nothing has happened!
I guess I can let you know that I turned on a specific feature for the newsletter. Analytics baby!!! Let me show you this:

This is all the information I get. Did it make it to your inbox and did you open it. I don’t know if you read it, but I know if you opened it.
How do you know if I opened it?
Wait, you don’t know how that works.
No.
Oh, you’re serious. You don’t know!
No! I don’t!
Oh reader, do I have something to teach you! You want to know the super secret and evil technology that allows me to see when you opened an email?
I don’t know if I want to now.
It’s called…Pixel Trackers!

Okay reader. Relax. It’s not that scary (at least the way I’m using it (👀)). Even though I’m at a low subscriber count, this information helps me to know that I am getting some engagement.
And that’s all it can be used for?
Oh no! In theory I could get the IP address, the device, the time, the amount of times opened, a bunch of information.
Is this a commonly used tool!?
I’d guess it’s safe to assume any business that’s trying to get your money is using a pixel tracker when emailing you. Here's a domain registrar explaining them in detail.
You're going tell us how to protect ourselves right?
Nope! Happy Eid al-Fitr!
I've rediscovered Puzzmo and got addicted to playing it every morning. Add me and teach me how to be better cause I'm horrible at all the puzzles. (@Lattepunk obviously).
I listened to the latest episode of Darknet Diaries and I had to recommend it. He interviews Rachel Tobac and she explains how she got into social engineering and some of the tricks she's pulled off.
Wired dropped a good long form about a guy from Turkey who got sentenced to 11,196 years in prison. His crime? Just stealing 2 billion dollars in crypto. You know, normal Wednesday stuff.
If you enjoyed this, share it with someone.
