New Lattepunk, Who Dis?

Lattepunk

After spending on, what felt like, an absurd amount of time on it, I’m finally done! I got a new website!!! Things may not be one hundred percent perfect but they’re working. It’s a process, and unfortunately, a learning one. Don’t really have a creative way of expressing this, so let’s do they five “double u’s”:

Who:

Wtf reader!? ME!!! I did this! With assistance from some large language models, a shit ton of documentation, one YouTube video. I got it done.

What:

Ummm, the website. That’s what we’re talking about. Reader, get with the program.

When:

Right now! As you read this!

Where:

It’s on the world wide web!

Why:

This is the deep philosophical question. Why does one do anything? Seriously, consider it. It feels so strange that for someone who doesn’t have a social media presence, I’d start a place where I just write random things into the void. Honestly, it’s just a place for me to call my own. Not controlled by any company or rich dude. Just me.

With that out the way, lets get into some of the technical hurdles. Website is just HTML, CSS, and some Javascript. One thing I already noticed that’s missing is a way to jump back to the top of the page when you get to the bottom of a page. That’s easy enough to add.

Did you know that the size of you PNG file matters? No? Neither did I. I had to fix that. I’m not totally sure I did it correctly. For the new logo!!! WHAT!?!?!?

I’ve also been learning a bunch about setting up RSS feeds. If you use the one from Buttondown, it’ll still work. But I got a new one if you want to switch to that one.

Speaking of Buttondown, I’m still using them to send my emails. I couldn’t figure out a simple way of implementing that myself. Things will, eventually, change with that. I’m exploring how to change the address it comes from. In order to apply the CSS from my website to the emails (make it have the same color scheme), I need to start being a paying member. I can’t justify that quite yet.

I’m hoping the reason your reading this is the words, not the aesthetics (honestly, you probably just feel sad that an adult has hit rock bottom and decided to type out his midlife crisis. Counts the same to me). But I care about the look. Being the second website I made, it’s been fun. Even though I’ve had this feeling before anyone even knew it was live!

With the “hard” part out the way, back to more words in your inbox! Before I start working on my next website…
