Lattepunk Week Tonight
Lattepunk
I actually don’t have anything specific topic I want to talk about this week. So instead of my normal rambling, how are you doing today?
Just not going to answer? I guess this isn’t the right medium for this conversation huh? Alright, guess I got to bore you with AI news.
AI!?!? Again!?
Bruh. This past week has been super interesting. I’m not even going to give you a link to every little thing, just going to run the gauntlet with you. Check this out:
OpenAI announced and showed off ChatGPT-4o (that’s “o” as in “omni”, not zero). It’s the next form of AI that can receive multiple inputs, blah blah blah. It has human like conversation skills, that are legit inspired by the movie Her. The voice sounds a lot like ScarJo who voiced the AI in the movie. LEGALLY, the voice is Sky, but a few months ago OpenAI asked ScarJo to be the voice of it, but she declined, then two days before the showcase, they asked again! She still said no, then used a voice that sounded like her anyway. Her lawyers reached out, they pulled the voice of Sky (who LEGALLY, is not ScarJo).
ChatGPT-4o dropped the day before Google I/O. What’s Google I/O? Thought you’d never ask! It’s Google’s annual presentation where they talk about future technologies that they are currently working on. Let me summarize it for you, THEY’RE PUTTING AI IN EVERYTHING. This is bringing up a bunch of worries about the future of the internet. Many issues I won’t bore you with but this could in theory change how we interact with the internet. Why go to a website if Google will just take the information from it and give it to you? How accurate is this information? Where will it get new information from if people stop making websites for Google to steal said information from? WHO CARES! HAHAHA! Anyway, if you’re logged into your account and use Google, you may have the “Google Search Generative Experience” available now, if not it should be out for everyone by the end of the week.
Somewhere between Google I/O and Microsoft’s event (reminder: F@#$ Microsoft), Apple updated it’s iPhone software to 17.5. That update was resurfacing nudes and other “deleted” photos. Whatever. Update to 17.5.1 and problem solved. Also, GME (Gamestop’s stock) went absolutely fucking nuts. Want to know why? Cause Roaring Kitty tweeted this:

I’m dead ass. That’s why. Lets move on.
Microsoft then came out with their event, which they called “who gives a shit cause it’s microsoft” and they dropped some huge news in the laptop world. They finally seemed poised to usurp Apple’s laptop dominance with some ARM based Windows laptops that don’t suck. This is actually really good. Competition is good for us, the consumer.
So wait, you’re praising Microsoft!?
Of course not! I said this is AI themed news, didn’t I? You know why they want you to buy these new laptops? Cause they’re built from the ground up to include, use, be used for, and devour our universe with AI. They even made a new button for this stupidity. Look at it:
I may come off as a broken record but this stuff is being forced down our throats. You may have heard of crypto or the metaverse, but unless you went out your way to interact with that stuff, it was just that. Something you heard about. This AI stuff is unavoidable. And really, it’s like every company HAS to do this to appease their shareholders. It’s getting annoying. We haven’t even gotten to WWDC where Apple will invent AI for the first time! UGH!
This stuff still gets things wrong, yet they keep pushing it on us. Should we be concerned about it replacing our kid’s friends? Replacing what we spank it to? It’s moving fast, chatbots and images are so yesterday, video is the next frontier! But there are concerns that no one seems to care about in the name of profits. At least it seems to be clear that AI generated CSAM is a crime, humanity still has hope.
But don’t worry reader, all the AI companies promised to keep AI safe. At least you can sleep good tonight.
Possible breaking news for you my reader, I’m “going back to school”. I’m actually just taking a 6 month boot camp on web development, but yeah. It’s really got me thinking about how to make extra money if I do follow through with a career change. I’m not the selfish type, let me share my findings:
You could go become an OnlyFans Chatter. Think logically here: if a female model has 100 subscribers and 50 of them pay for the tier that allows them to message her personally, how is she supposed to make new content, work, sleep, just live life if she has to chat with 50 people all the time? Now imagine you’re a popular model, thousands to tens of thousands of subscribers. You contract a team to chat for you, as you. I will say, the pay was surprising for the amount of work you need to do.
Where there’s some serious money is in the restaurant business apparently. Not running a restaurant, just selling reservations to them. A couple of thousand dollars for a 8:00pm reservation to a popular restaurant? And I’m just sitting here waiting in line for free!? What did I do wrong in life?
What about making music? You could make a bunch of random songs with peoples names and hope they get enough plays to generate income. Maybe make a few songs about poop. Kids love poop!
Lastly, you could go into the online pharmaceutical business. High risk, high reward. I’ll be open with you, this is NOT why I’m going into web development, but damn do those numbers look lucrative.
Whatever you choose reader, just be careful selling your bathwater. It might not be worth it.
If you enjoyed this, share it with someone.
