Lattepunk, Come Out and Play

Lattepunk

The election news cycle is getting tiring, we do we talk about?

I recently did something I’ve always wanted to do for years. I’ve wanted to run the Hartford Marathon Relay for out don’t know how many years. You won’t believe how hard it is to convince four people to commit to and then make sure all four of those people don’t have plans come up (or back out at the last minute). I happened to fill in for another team and it finally happened!

It’s wild cause this is the second time I’ve participated in this event. Ten years ago...TEN!...I ran a half marathon at this same event. I got both medals hanging up next to each other. Had me doing some self reflecting. This week I’m just going to spot light some random stuff.

I Made a Wholesome OnlyFans to Try to Make Ends Meet | Andrew Rummer for Wired

This is a funny story of using OnlyFans what it’s meant to be. Way to connect with your fans, not sell feet pics reader. It’s funny, I’ve spoken to a few women who thought OnlyFans is as simple putting a picture of their cooch and rain in the money. There’s a lot of work. Growing a following isn’t easy. It isn’t easy. It’s actually something I’m struggling to do with this very newsletter.

But that’s fun of it! The journey is the story. But it’s something I’ll worry about next year. I’m still finding my voice and my writing has been suffering cause of this damn bootcamp.

This came recently and it’s kind of taken the Bitcoin world by storm. Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin, then disappeared. It’s a wild story cause no one knows who he is. There’s a shit ton a bitcoin on the block that hasn’t moved (as in it’s been in it original possession of it’s first owner) since bitcoin has been created. It’s assumed that those coins are owned by Satoshi. If Satoshi were to sell those coins today, he’d easily become the richest person on earth.

So that documentary believes to have uncovered who Satoshi Nakamoto really is. The reason it has some weight behind it is cause the guy that made that is the guy that discovered who QAnon is. Well, after the documentary came out, things have happened.

Peter Todd Was ‘Unmasked’ As Bitcoin Creator Satoshi Nakamoto. Now He’s In Hiding | Joel Khalili for Wired

Imagine you were publicly ousted as the richest person on Earth. Even if it isn’t true, people will want a piece of it. Wild!

I finished reading a book that had me hooked from the very beginning.

I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin

It’s a very internet heavy story but it touched on a lot of modern themes. It was right up my tech addicted alley. I ripped through it in few days (don’t tell my employer I’m a shit employee).

Remember this movie:

How silly is it that I’m asking if you remember a movie that came out before I was even born. I don’t know how I ended up seeing this movie but I loved it. Maybe it’s cause I really liked the video game.

Anyways, I saw this came out:

Warriors by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Eisa Davis (Apple | Spotify)

I saw Warriors, I saw Lin-Manuel Miranda. Reader...enough said. It’s a musical reimagining of the movie. The Warriors are a gang of women. SHIT. IS. A. BANGER.

Why can’t Hollywood’s unoriginal ass remake this movie? I did find out that the movie was based off a book! Guess what’s on my library loan list?

other things i read this week:

How a 12-Ounce Layer of Foam Changed the NFL | Alex Prewitt for Wired

‘I literally can’t stop.’ The descent of a modern sports fan | Jason Quick for NY Times

ByteDance intern fired for planting malicious code in AI models | Ashley Belanger for ArsTechnica

T-Mobile, AT&T oppose unlocking rule, claim locked phones are good for users | Jon Brodkin for ArsTechnica

AI Detectors Falsely Accuse Students of Cheating—With Big Consequences | Jackie Davalos and Leon Yin for Bloomberg

Can AI help Africa close the development gap? | David Pilling for Financial Times

Thanks for opening (can’t confirm you’re reading it) week after week. This bootcamp is killing me. I promise the writing will get better. Unless some wild tech news happens, I’m going to try to do some original stories these next few weeks. Depends on how fried my brain is. Alright, I got to get a kidney stone removed and wrap my head around how to code in React.

If you enjoyed this, share it with someone.
