Does Sony make the best gaming controller? I think so…

I recently acquired a PlayStation 5 controller. I actually don’t use controllers when I game, but the few games I play with them, I want something good. To be fair, I had no complaints about my last controller (which I still have). I used a Google Stadia controller, which I was able to switch to bluetooth mode before Google shutdown Stadia. Although a good controller, this PS5 controller is something else.

I haven’t been able to use it on a game that takes full advantage of all the features the controller has (of the games on PC, I already played the ones I owned so I’m not going back to just test the controller), I’m already happy with it. Comfortable, not heavy, and just clean looking! It helps that I managed to acquire a specific variant of the controller. Specifically, the 30th anniversary edition. Look at this thing:

That’s hot! Like most humans, I long for nostalgia. I almost imported a Japanese 3DS because of the nostalgia look! The original PlayStation look is classic! I look at it on my desk and think back to all the classic games I’ve played on the original PlayStation. While traveling down memory lane, I was struck by something. Reader, do you remember the PlayStation 9? If you’re like, “What the fuck are you smoking?”, 1. Can’t smoke (my job forbids it). And 2. Watch this:

Seeing how we’re 4 iterations of the PlayStation away from this, is this actually the future of gaming? Sure the technology isn’t there right now, but some of these ideas are already here. Most people own wireless headphones and use the environment for games (think Pokemon Go, which just got bought out for 3.5 billion dollars). And although Virtual Reality gaming hasn’t caught on, it’s still already a thing. We’ve seen people walking around with Vision Pros, but they aren’t meant for gaming. But that’s rumored to be changing (with help from…drum roll…Sony!).

I don’t know if we’re ready for that vision of gaming. But I am excited to see where the hardware of gaming is going. PC gaming is feeling fresh now that it’s gone mobile, inspired by the Nintendo Switch. Hell, Nintendo is coming out with the Switch 2. Xbox is rumored to come out with a hand held console too! I guess I’ll just use my PS5 controller until the PS6 comes out. I’ll have to see how much closer we are to the PS9.

Let’s just hope my controller keeps getting updates till the PS9 comes out. I mean, 2078 isn’t too far away…
