What's Next For Hank?!

Since Death to Pachuco wrapped… I’ve been thinking to myself: what’s next?

Comics Pro came right as I’m processing these feelings. I got to meet some incredible comic book sellers, some of who graciously signed up for my newsletter, so, thank you for that.

A lot of us make comics in a vacuum. Personally, I will go days without physically seeing or talking to a person that isn’t a neighbor or my landlord. But it was good to hear the candid and honest reviews of my work from people that sell it for a living. Comic book retailers give it too you straight. Sometimes too straight. Gay it up a little, y’know?

I have a cool idea I’m going to develop. More to come.

Death to Pachuco #5 CVR B sells out!

covrprice front page. death to pachuco is #7

Good news: Death to Pachuco #5 numbers increased and made one of the top 10 hottest books on the market thanks to the collector’s market, per Covr Price dot com:

Death to Pachuco is hailed as a Chicano noir book that's been seeing some accolades from the community. So, when J. Gonzo, the renowned Chicano artist, delivered a cover in the classic Day of the Dead aesthetic, collectors were quick to secure a copy. This title isn’t the most heavily collected or glamorized, but it has a devout fanbase eager to secure books like this! We tracked 21 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 450% with a high sale of $25 for a raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $21.

I’m selling copies signed on eBay on the advice from some retailers. Auction ends tomorrow!

WHAT I’M WATCHING

Victims of Sin 1951 Víctimas del pecado Directed by Emilio Fernández

WHAT I’M READING

From New York Times reporter Jazmine Ulloa, a sweeping human history of El Paso, revealing violence, power, and privilege at play in America’s most famous border town.

El Paso has been called the “Ellis Island” of America’s southern border, a mountain pass cum border town cum bifurcated metropolis where past meets future, and disadvantage meets opportunity, or so the promise goes.

El Paso is an extraordinary, can’t-look-away reported history; it uses deep research and dozens of new interviews to blow away the myth of this place, where Mexico’s Juarez and America’s El Paso intertwine. It charts the history of El Paso through five families. From the Mexican Revolution and the Mexican Repatriation, to the shifting immigration laws under Reagan and Trump and the violence and bloodshed brought on by the drug war, El Paso captures a place often misunderstood or forgotten by the rest of the country, and the world.

El Paso is a brave new work of narrative nonfiction that gives new voice and perspective to history that has long been checked at the border, or told through the lens of white men alone. Ulloa draws upon meticulous research and reporting and stunning historical detail to craft the intimate narratives of an unforgettable cast of characters.
