One year together!
Make sure to check your paid subscriptions!
Happy one-year-anniversary! I can’t believe I’ve consistently kept this newsletter going!
Don’t forget to double-check if you’re clocked in to make an annual subscription! I know times are tough, so please let me know if you need a refund. The last thing I want is for you to have a sour taste in your mouth every time you get an email from me if you got charged for an annual subscription.
With that said…
I have a love-hate relationship with Substack.
This platform has made it clear that it doesn’t plan on “demonetizing” or “censoring” assholes that use this platform for their “right to publish.” The NYT and Atlantic have outlined show how poorly Substack has handled the situation. (My LAPL account gives me access to the NYT, and maybe your local library does as well.)
With that said, I can’t afford to go somewhere else. But I promise that I will build this newsletter up so it’s not operating at a loss. It’s the same reason I’m still on all the other social media platforms. Unfortunately, Nazis and bigots use all the available tools to spread their hate. I don’t expect this explanation to satisfy everyone. Hell, I wouldn’t be mad if you unsubscribe. But if you do decide to stick around (bless you), you won’t have to do anything when that time comes. I will just upload the list as I switched from Mailchimp to here. Cool? Cool.
You’re out of your element, Gil.
I love, love working with Rod Whigham. He is a workhorse. Sometimes he surprises me with strips like today. Click here to support the strip and help get us paid. Every click counts! Comment below if these characters look like folks you might recognize!

Premature New Title Announcement!
I’m working with Chispa Comics on one of their Latinx Thirteen Origins superhero titles: Gila Girl.
David Bowles (Clockwork Curandera, Tales of the Feathered Serpent) and Héctor Rodríguez III (El Peso Hero) trusted me with building one of their superheroes from the ground up. Obviously, I picked the cape that was described as “Spider-Man but a lizard.” I had such a good time working with Saly Luce-Antoinette on Project Crypitd that I was glad she was down to go on this journey with me. When I was writing this comic I was reading one of the Elric of Melniboné novels—and I was battling a cold/flu at the same time. Needless to say, you might be able to sniff out the references. But Saly has bleed so much of her own life into the pages making this one of the most rewarding work-for-hire projects I’ve ever worked on.
It’s not available for preorder until next month, so just let your local comic shop know that you want it as soon as it hits the Lunar catalog. But don’t worry, I will share more info when the time comes.
I’ll leave you with this…
My roommate and I have been playing this arcade pool game on the Switch. The ball physics are wonky, but it’s a fun time. I’ve been listening to the stupid music in this game because it slaps.
And Another Thing!
I’m obsessed with Alan Wake 2. I didn’t play but I watched my roommate play it in passing, and I’ve never had so much fun watching someone play a game. Play it if you can. This next video won’t make sense if you haven’t played it, but it’s so damn meta. I fucking love it.
