La Reina Moni Barrette
I'm co-writing Green Hornet & Miss Fury! Preorder The Exorcism at 1600 Penn #1!
There’s no way to box Moni Barrette in one category. You can’t teach what Moni knows when it comes to the significance of comics in libraries and classrooms. I met Moni during my time at Top Cow when I was trying to figure out the library spaces and how to get them to buy the comics I was selling. She is one of the most important people I have met on my journey in this business. I think you’re going to dig this episode of the Latinx Press Podcast!
I’m making this video available to all subscribers to make up for the two months of me being MIA. But if you prefer to listen to this convo, click here!
We recorded this interview before SDCC and when things got hairy during my personal life. Close friends know that I have lost some people near and dear to me and professional opportunities. I don’t want to write a sad song here but things happen, and I’m grateful you are still here and care. I can’t thank you enough.
Preorder The Exorcism at 1600 Penn #1
My BFF Hannah Rose May has a new series The Exorcism at 1600 Penn debuting in October. She gave me a sneak peek at the first issue—and I was blown away. I may be biased, but, this might be The best horror comic of 2024. My local comic shop Collector’s Paradise is offering a signature series, so you don’t have to wait in line for Hannah’s autograph. Click here to preorder the whole enchilada.
I’m co-writing The Green Hornet & Miss Fury
I’m super excited for y’all to read the Green Hornet and Miss Fury comic I’m co-writing with Alex Segura, art by Federico Sorressa, and Lesley Atlansky on coloring duties. I love the old Green Hornet 1930s comics, radio shows, and the TV show starring Bruce Lee. But it’s been great to get to know Miss Fury throught the orignial comics and the work by Corinna Bechko and Jonathan Lau. You can ask your local comic shop to preorder not one but all the covers for this mini-series hopefully turned ongoing. We have an overarching story to tell but you never know in today’s market.
When Marla Drake and Britt Reid meet, sparks fly — and it’s not just because of the bullets ricocheting around them! Their alter egos of Miss Fury and The Green Hornet are two vigilantes with very different styles of crimefighting set on a collision course. When the two vigilantes discover they not only shared a mentor – the mysterious crime-fighter known as the Silver Shrike – and that the man that helped shape them into the heroes they are today is dead, the Hornet and Fury must put aside their differences to solve the mystery. But as the unlikely partners dig deeper into their beloved mentor’s death, they uncover a deeper conspiracy that looms as a threat over all “masks” – and one that could be gunning for them, too! The Green Hornet, by the book and willing to throw punches wherever a crime happens, bristles at Miss Fury’s more precise approach – a strategy driven by her desire to “cut off the head” of organized crime, instead of allowing it to keep festering. Can the duo – along with Green Hornet’s ever-loyal partner, Kato, get to the truth before they’re consumed by a threat they have yet to discover? Only time will tell.
