I wrote a comic about Dolores Huerta and you can read it for free right now
I'm coming home for TFOB! I'm the new L.A. NCS Chapter Chair!

Finally, I can discuss something I worked on for the first six months of 2023. I wrote Historias de Resistencia #1: Dolores Huerta and the Plight of the Farm Workers & Union Organizers for the New York Department of Education’s Civics For All Comics Group. You can read the 24-page comic right now on your phone or desktop by simply clicking this link.
It wouldn’t be a comic without Louie Chin, Gab Contreras, and J. Gonzo. I rarely get to tell this kind of story that’s free to read and pays everyone above market page rates. That doesn’t happen, especially when you’re a BIPOC creative in the comic book industry. This was all possible thanks to Joe Schmidt’s faith in me and my proven track record of making a comic book.
Here is a preview of the comic before you go ahead and download the whole enchilada.
Unfortunately, you can’t buy this comic… yet! But if you’re a New York City school district student, you will get a free copy in March. I will hand out free copies after my Tucson Festival of Books panel on Sunday, March 10th.
I know what you’re saying, “Hey, Hank! Way to bury the lede!”
Yes, I’m returning to the Tucson Festival of Books.
Thanks to a teacher at the University of Arizona and the Department of Mexican American Studies and Social, Cultural, and Critical Theory GIDP, I will be home for two weeks. I will talk to a class before the students go on Spring break, and there will be a public event with more details. Instead of flying home and returning to my hometown, I’ll hang out until my TFOB panel with my friend and amazing writer, Lydia Otero. It’s accessible to the public and will be at the Nuestras Raíces Stage. If climate change doesn’t screw everything up, there’s no better place to be than Tucson in March. Trust, fam. Trust.
You can call me President Barajas now!
I volunteered to be the Los Angeles chapter chair for the National Cartoonist Society. Look, no one wanted the job, which isn’t much different from the actual President of the United States. I hope to serve the office to the best of my abilities and cultivate a more inclusive scene in my backyard. Check out the official announcement at The Daily Cartoonist for all the deets.
Now, if you excuse me, I have to write more comics!
P.S. You should watch this.
It’s a video of me working out.
