Henry Does WonderCon 2K24
I have one rule when it comes to cons... Money, baby.

Finally, Chispa Comics’ Gila Girl is available for preorder!
For those of you at home keeping score, I mentioned this incredible project Saly Luce-Antoinette collaborated on, and one is finally available for preorder at your local comic shop. The street date is June 19th, so expect more press from now until then. June will be a big month because I have that cocktail book hitting bookstores on the 25th.
I know, I know. A lot is going on. I’m even having a hard time keeping up.
The leaves are changing.
The weather is getting hotter.
You can feel it in the air.
Con season is here.
I used to go to a lot of shows, but not so much these days. My first con was back in 2007. My sister and I went to Phoenix Comic Con back when it was in Scottsdale. That’s where I caught the bug. I have spent the last 18 years of my life going from downtown to downtown, spending my entire adult life in (sometimes) airconditioned rooms and irritating fluorescent lights, which is why I wear my prescription sunglasses indoors.
Wonder Con is far enough to make it a day-long trip but not far enough from my bed. Consequently, I miss out on all the after-hours mingling. I need my beauty sleep, folks.
Anyway, here’s when and where you can find me at Wonder Con:
FRIDAY, 3/29
The Beat at 20: Two Decades That Changed Comics
Room 213AB
4:30 p.m.
This one is special because The Beat is where I got my start in comics. It’s been a long time since I’ve shared a stage with Heidi, so this will be a ball.
Creators Assemble: Comics Camaraderie, a Networking Event
Room 206B
5 - 6 p.m.
As you can see, I will be late for this one. But Moni said in a DM that I can get there whenever possible. But this is for folks who want to meet industry folks and publishers. I doubt anyone here is into that kind of thing. JUST KIDDING.
SATURDAY, 3/30
I’ll be signing at the National Cartoonist Society Exhibitor Booth #2000 from noon to 4 p.m.
Black and Brown Connections in Comics
Room 209
5 - 6 p.m.
This panel is going to be stacked!
Comics pros Jazzlyn Stone (director of communications, Tiny Onion), Chris Robinson (All-Negro Comics 75th Anniversary Edition), Ajuan Mance (What Do Brothas Do All Day?), Marc Bernardin (Star Wars: Mace Windu), and Henry Barajas (La Voz De M.A.Y.O.: Tata Rambo) discuss the past, present, and future of Black and Latine representation in the industry.
See you there?!
RECOMMENDATIONS
Do yourself a favor and subscribe to Feral by the creators of the best-selling horror comic Stray Dogs. If you like that, you should check out Local Man by—you guessed it—Tony Fleec and Tim Seely and Co. Tony is firing on all cylinders, and I’m surprised he finds time to make comics while doing all the dirty work of promoting his stuff.
This one is a no-brainer: Soma by Tula Lotay and Becky Cloonan. There was a moment when I had to stop reading and appreciate the work that was in front of me. Soma is the kind of comic that would have caused a Senate probe and would give Frederick Wortham into cardiac arrest. They’re doing the devil’s smutty deeds—and I’m all for it!
Remember to read today’s Gil Thorp! A new strip drops every weekday in the funny pages and GoComics. Every click pays the artist, so share it with your friends!
