A Quiet Space in a Crowded City
The Elizabeth Street Garden won’t be here forever—see it while you can.
This weekend, I walked through Soho and stopped at the Elizabeth Street Garden.
It’s a quiet place, free to enter, with plenty of seating. A rare bit of open space in the city.
Winter is ending, but spring hasn’t arrived. The trees are still bare. Some are wrapped in burlap.
Dried plants hang from the ceiling. Maybe they use them for decoration. Maybe for something else.
A garden like this feels out of place here.
The city is closing in. Soon, it will be gone, replaced by housing and shops. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
If you want to keep it, visit their website. Write to the mayor.
