"Silo" by Sophie Cabot Black: A strange, fragmented vision of the singular "one to ladder up" who is separated from the crowd, which includes the speaker. Does this poem probe inequality, or something more metaphysical? "I cannot tell / what I need to tell" seems operative – confusion ("I can't tell") breaking off into aphasia.
