“Breaking” by Gboyega Odubanjo: Deeply eerie echoes of the poet’s own untimely death by drowning. This is part of a series of poems which can be read, along with some additional context, online at the link. I can see why this was picked as the least in need of that context, because it’s presenting the central story in somewhat literal fashion, as if on TV news – though still with moments of destabilization. On its own, the message is somewhat flat; in the context of the poetic cycle, it serves its purpose ably.
