🌹 Celebrate Labor, not Capital on Black Friday

Celebrate Labor, not Capital on Black Friday

We never hear of Capital Day, not because Capital has no day, but because every day is Capital Day.

-- Eugene Debs, socialist candidate for President of the United States

As much as every day is Capital Day in the United States, never is that more true than on Black Friday. Black Friday represents the day of the year when companies go from losing money ("in the red"), to making a profit ("in the black"), because Americans buy enough stuff to keep them afloat.

Instead of participating in this exercise, let's celebrate Labor and build Socialism. Think about the people who make the products, buy Union Made products, and remember the struggles past and present for fair working conditions.

Upcoming Actions

Friday: Watch UNION, a documentary about the Amazon Labor Union

UNION, a documentary about the Amazon Labor Union, will be available for a limited release during Black Friday through Tuesday. I've heard great things about it, and instead of shopping at Amazon - support their Union!

Saturday: Knock doors for Mike Siegel

This Saturday, join us at 10am in knocking doors for our endorsed candidate for city council District 7, Mike Siegel! Mike Siegel is a member of Austin DSA, and has fought for the working class his whole life, and we need your help to get the word out about the runoff to ensure his victory

Monday: Learning Conditions Town Hall

Join us and Students United in the library at lunch to discuss our learning conditions, including workloads, special education, and more. We'll have a panel of guests, and open questions will be taken from the audience.

Tuesday: Regular Meeting

On Tuesday in G104 at lunch, we have our regularly scheduled meeting! Come hang out, eat lunch, debrief from the Town Hall and get involved in shaping up the next round of actions for YDSA!

Are you overworked this break? Tell us your story!

If you are working over the break, feeling guilty about not working, or have parental pressure to work - we want to hear from you!

We want to know how the expectation to work has affected you, your health and your ability to enjoy your holiday.

Everyone deserves a real break, and we want to amplify your experiences, because the outside world deserves to know how LASA treats its student's holidays.

If you're interested - reply to this email, or shoot us a DM on Instagram.

I hope everyone has a great rest of their fall break, and is able to take a breather from this stressful world.

In solidarity,

Reese Armstrong
Co-chair
