Workers Deserve More! Electing Mike Siegel to City Council and building our Union
Hey y'all, LASA YDSA is up to a lot, and we need your help to be able to win these victories and make important progress towards socialism in the heart of empire.
But first, some reflection on the election and what to do next to defeat fascism.
Chair's Report: Post-election reflections
I know this is a dark time, fascism has returned to the White House and sweeping restrictions on our freedoms are a surefire bet to be implemented. Regardless, we must not give up the fight, because it's only over when we give up. The arc of history is long, and it bends towards justice.
Additionally, this result makes our efforts all the more salient because we must build up the working class, progressive Left in this country in order to defeat fascism. We must not let our school continue as a breeding ground for the ruling class, and we must organize to make our school a vanguard for the working class, a bulwark that can hold strong amid threats from all around. Organizing the working class, collective action, and solidarity are the antidote to division, fear and individualistic politics.
I end this with one call to action: organize your peers. Get them to sign union cards, show up to actions & meetings, run for union office, anything. This campaign is one of many to be waged against fascism, and we cannot afford to keep losing.
On a more positive note, we have quite a few upcoming events to plug you into and get organizing.
Social Event tabling
There are a few upcoming social events at LASA that we need help tabling and crowd canvassing at. It's very simple, and we need as many hands as we can get to get cards in as many people as possible.
Today (Fri): Junior Social
StuCo is holding a junior social in the G-Annex at lunch, and I will try to get us a table to have cards out, but we will also need to have people working the line and handing out cards.
Tomorrow (Sat): Fall Fest
We will be operating a table at Fall Fest for YDSA and our Union, and we’ll need some people to cover and make the table lively!
Next Thursday: Hand Turkey Social
LASA Theatre is holding a social at lunch next Thursday, and we need some people to hand out cards and talk to people about the Union!
If you are available for any of these events, please reply so I can get a tally on where we need more hands!
Mike Siegel Runoff
Mike Siegel, our endorsed candidate for District 7 and a champion for the working class, came out on top with 40% of the vote, but we need to win one more runoff election to secure his spot on council.
We will be canvassing tomorrow at 10am at the Gracie Farms Tacodeli and would love it if you could join us to knock doors and ensure victory!

Block Walk for Mike on 11/16! - Action Network
Join us as we knock on doors for Mike in District 7! This is a great opportunity to talk with our neighbors about the runoff and increase turnout to help Mike win! Meet-up area is subject to change, RSVP to stay up to date! A training and literature will be provided, but don't forget to bring a charged cell phone. See you there!
Learning Conditions Town Hall
On December 2nd at lunch in the Library, Students United will be hosting a Town Hall to discuss our learning conditions, workloads, special education support, and more.
We need your help to plan this, find people for the panel, and come up with discussion questions. If you are able to help out here, please let us know!
Join our Union!
We are forming a union to fight for better learning conditions, fairer workloads, an 8-hour day, and a union culture that puts working class people first at LASA. If you want to be a part of this movement, build student power, or are merely in support, please sign your union card and encourage all your friends to do the same! We need you to relationally organize to be successful.
Sign your card today at lasastudents.org!
Thank you so much for reading this email and being a part of our movement.
Solidarity Forever,
