prologue
last week, my friend and i went out exploring in the woods, up past one of beacon's two reservoirs. though we were far from any marked trails, echoes of human settlement were all around us - stone walls, overgrown carriage roads, clearings filled with grape vines. less than a century ago, this area was likely filled with farmsteads and rural homes. it's easy to forget how young the forest here is.
i had a strange moment as we followed the brook, up to a place where the water flowed directly over a large stretch of exposed bedrock, and i was reminded of a dream i had many years ago. in the dream, i was in a deep forest carpeted with hemlock and pine needles, with a labyrinthine network of small stone canals cutting into the ground. the other details are lost to me now, but i was overcome with an uncanny sensation of having been there before.

10/16, chasm
it's been wonderful getting to iterate on this concept so many times. i feel like this piece illustrates the fluency i've acquired over the course of many chasms - there's something about the swooping motion that i find really enchanting.
10/17, plane growth
a big piece for a single session! this one is not quite done, though. we decided shortly after the session that it needs a bit more work to carry it over the finish line. We'll be filling in the planes with some parallel lines, which will also allow us to correct the slightly wonky shape of the uppermost plane.
10/22, cytoplasm
this flash piece was synthesized from two concepts i've been wanting to work with for ages, and it turns out they mesh together perfectly. i'm so excited to do more like this! the neck / shoulder / upper torso region is one of my favorite tattoo placements, and this was my first time actually tattooing someone's neck. let me tell you, it was a challenge - very difficult to find a position that worked for both of us. this inspired me to finally upgrade my cheap massage table and order a fancy one that converts into a recliner.
