march 2024
Hello from Tokyo!
In the months since the last newsletter update, I have found myself doing very little writing or submitting, in sharp contrast to the flurry of activity and concentration I had going on from last summer through autumn. Pieces that I submitted during that period have been gradually releasing, but the fire of new writing has been mostly dormant. Like all things, I suppose this too must be fluid, coming and going in waves.
I have felt the need to read more, to experience more stories and worlds written by others, and so I've been diving into books and thoroughly enjoying that. Some of the works I've read include:
The Splinter in the Sky by Kemi Ashing-Giwa
Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh
Exhalation by Ted Chiang
American Home by Sean Cho A.
The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin
Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Welcome to Forever by Nathan Tavares
Better Living Through Algorithms by Naomi Kritzer (Clarkesworld Magazine, May 2023)

Here are some of my pieces in recent publications:
Pine, a prose poem in Overheard.
fragments from the south, a poem in Empty House Press.
spark kindling, a hybrid in Cutbow Quarterly.
Hawkwatch, a small story in Gone Lawn.
the whale band in the sky, a poem in The Sprawl Mag.
I'm looking forward to the warmth that should be arriving with the end of this month, the blossoms all over the city, the spring breezes and petalfalls giving way to bright green summer leaves again. Thank you for reading, and until next letter,
lae
