What's a Sturgeon Award? Is it a Fish?

Hello friends!

And welcome new friends to my newsletter. This is my very infrequent newsletter where I tell you a bit of writing news (if I have any) and also update you on what is going on here in limbo (where I live).

Congratulations! I have writing news today!

My story, “Evan: A Remainder,” is nominated for the Theodore Sturgeon Award. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a nice thing. A very nice thing. Here’s a link to all the finalists. It’s an incredible list to be on, and I am just floored, honored, and humbled.

Also! If you haven’t picked it up yet, my book, “The Death of Mountains” is finally out from Lethe Press! It’s been called “poetic and a prayer,” said that it “punches above its weight class,” and other reviews have called it “meditative” and “phenomenal.”

I also have a new short story out in Beneath Ceaseless Skies. This one is another fairy tale, about Hope and Despair, told from the perspective of their daughter. It’s called “The Messengers of Despair.” You can read it by clicking on the link here.

This is my fourth time appearing in Beneath Ceaseless Skies, and my fourth fairy tale with them. It’s a theme, I’m not sorry to say.

Also! Cast of Wonders asked me back to be a narrator on another one of their stories, this time for the lovely piece by Rae A. Shell called “A Spell of Grief.” This is an absolutely touching flash-length story I was thrilled to narrate. Rae did a great job writing it.

Listen to the narration here (or read Rae’s story by itself).

Gosh, that’s a lot of news. Maybe I should write these things more often.

I have a new roommate! He’s terrific, and he has two absolutely amazing cats! At least Stella and I think so, Dax, however, does not think so at all. His cats are orange and grey, and both very fluffy. Here’s a picture of the orange cat.

Stella is now woefully outnumbered, cat-wise, but she doesn’t mind at all. She loves cats, and it’s a good thing. Dax will figure things out, roommate and I are certain.

I’ll try to update again soon.

In the meantime, let me know what you’re up to? I’ve got a summer packed with work and appearances and nice walks to be had. Remember that we don’t do kings here, just more cats.
