Kurella de Village: This Time With Fewer Links
Hello friends and and friends of skeletons!
Welcome to another round of Kurella de Village where I try to keep you up to date with what’s going on writing-wise and life-wise here in this corner of everything.
First up! I lost the Nebula Award for short story! Not a big deal, as it’s a huge honor to be nominated, and I’m not just saying that. Isabel J. Kim’s “Why Don’t We Just Kill the Kid in the Omelas Hole” won, and that story is incredible. It caused a lot of chatter throughout 2024 and 2025, so it was both thrilling and unsurprising that Kim won.
Isabel J. Kim is a fantastic author, and if you haven’t read Kim’s Nebula Award winning story, or the story “Big Glass Box With the Boys Inside” from 2023 in Apex Magazine? I highly recommend both!
I was not in attendance personally in Kansas City, MO, but instead attended virtually. So, you get a screenshot of the certificate:

Secondly! I am reading several books at once, so of course my brain decided to try and work on several things at once, which I am trying (and have tried) to explain to my brain “This is not how we can work.” But in the ten years of working in this field, it has never once listened to me. Maybe one day.
Currently working on a weird western noir that takes place on the back of a jackrabbit (because why not). Also the novel about the fae entity that wants to take over the Internet. Also because why not.
Reading two books to blurb (both amazing, both incredible, can’t wait to yell about them). Two books I am alpha reading (also very very good books). Also had to put STAG DANCE (by Torrey Peters) down so I can make my deadlines on the blurbs, but I sneakily am nearly done with SUPER GAY POEMS (edited by Stephanie Burt). It’s poetry, it’s quick to read.
Thirdly! I am nearly done with season two of Severance (one episode left!), and my friend and roommate and I are watching Murderbot every Friday (both on AppleTV+).
Stella is doing well. Dax is doing well.
Fourthly! For an update on my transition, I posted this How It Started / How It’s Going diptych on Bluesky:

Remember, there’s no kings except short kings. Happy Pride! Happy Juneteenth (this Thursday)!
Happy reading.
