A few weeks back my 89 year old dad completed a 300 word jigsaw puzzle. That may not sound like a big deal, but for him it is. My smart, witty, creative dad had a stroke in June of 2024. Although he came out of it a lot better than many stroke victims, it’s still had a profound effect on his life. He lost the use of his left hand, much of his vim and vigor, and now has trouble comprehending things that used to come so easily. So, yeah, the puzzle is a big deal. We glued it, framed it, and my husband hung it on the wall so we can all enjoy it.

It got me to thinking that life is so busy and crazy nowadays, and it’s easy to get so hung up on what we consider big stuff, we overlook the little accomplishments that matter most. So what’s next?

Though I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to the Lascari clan, I’m also beginning to dream about what comes next. My upcoming Darby Falls series will take readers to a charming Montana town surrounded by mountains and lakes, where second chances, community, and more than a few lovable dogs will play an important role. I’ve already been sketching maps, imagining businesses, and getting to know the characters who will soon call Darby Falls home. I can’t wait to introduce you to this new series!

This month’s recommendations

I recently finished How to Talk to Your Dog About Murder, by Emily Soderberg. It’s a very cute cozy mystery. And though there were a few parts that I think could have moved a bit faster, it’s a fun, enjoyable read overall. I think Reginald the dog was my favorite character. (Big surprise, I know ;)

I’m currently enjoying Starting Over in Maple Bay, by Brittney Joy. It’s a sweet, emotional small-town romance that hits the second chance, single parent, handsome cowboy tropes. If you like my books, I really think you’ll enjoy the Maple Bay series.
