Hello again!

Here are a few glimpses into what’s been going on with me lately. As always, I’d love to hear about what’s going on with you.

WEBSITE REDESIGN

This year I delved deeper into creating fun spaces on the internet for myself. I have great nostalgia fondness for stumbling my way through html layouts for my live/deadjournals, but I decided I wanted to try to create whole websites. I have one that’s ~*~secret~*~ and then I decided to finally get my personal website out of the Squarespace ecosystem, which I’ve been in since 2012 but which has, in recent years, felt cumbersome and limited. And I did it!!! It’s still a work-in-progress, but it’s mostly functional. You can check it out at kirinmccrory.com. You can also check out a fun illustration/gif I made while I was brainstorming for the redesign that I ended up not using.

INJURED...INJURED (not too too) BAD

Back in April I wrote about saying goodbye to winter and preparing for shitty summer runs. Over the spring I had worked myself up to a couple weekly runs of ~4mi, and a long weekend run around the 6mi mark. It was starting to get hot but I was doing all right. And then! At the end of May I was stupid, and ran 5.5mi and then squatted for ~2hrs to do some manual labor. My body is not made for squatting, AKA my heels are like 3 inches from the ground (and that’s after me working on it for years now), and by overdoing it, I ushered in what is probably my first chronic injury: some persistent tendonitis in my left ankle. So I got to learn a different hard lesson this summer, instead of just getting to work on the hard lesson I learned last summer. It was a tough and bleak 3 months of summer running, set back to 3-4mi max, hating having to be outside, hating how long it took me to run lower miles, hating having to run on the treadmill (my personal hell) so much. I’ll probably write something about this—learning how to run healthily through an injury has been tough but worth it.
