A Week of Being Kin Lane - May 11th, 2026
I watch all of the signals when Poppy and I are out riding around NYC on our bike. It is the way my brain works. I watch the stop lights both ways, the cross walk signs both ways, and any other signal I can find to understand how people and cars are responding to the signals. I found this cross walk signal reflecting how I feel sometimes navigating the city.

That horrible socialist mayor of ours was riding with a bike bus of kids this week. He is getting a lot of press for being the first mayor to ride in the Five Boro Bike Tour, but he actually is a real Citi bike rider, which makes rides like the bike bus even more genuine, and something that speaks to the real people of NYC.

I had a big response to this statement that I posted on social media: I like the, “people who are critics of AI don’t even use it” argument. First, I use AI HEAVILY, and I am a critic of AI. Second, there are so many things in the world I am a critic of that I refuse to use. It isn’t the argument you think it is.
I am cooking in AI daily. I can tell AI Is bad for us because of the way it makes me feel, and for what I can see it stealing from me when it comes to my storytelling.
I went to Philadelphia this week to participate in Technical.ly Philly, participating on behalf of Naftiko for talks around entrepreneurship, AI, and investment. The even was all about building up the local Philadelphia startup scene, and since some of our investment is coming from the area, we are motivated to help lend a hand.

After the event I headed over to the Reading Market Terminal for a cheesesteak sandwich. While I do love me a cheesesteak, and it was delicious, I find that I can't finish the whole thing in my old age. It is a lot of beef, and I am just not used to eating so much meat. I like it in theory, but my body just doesn't love that much meat like it used to in my youth.

What I wanted was one of those Amish made pretzels, but sadly they were closed. I did manage to make my way to the candy store behind and get some licorice, and then on my way out the front door I couldn't help but grab me a mint chocolate ice cream waffle cone.

I got to ride the new Acela high speed train on this trip to and from Philadelphia. It was what you think train travel should be in your head, but it never is in the United States. I have ridden high speed trains in France, so I know what they are like, but this was my first in the US. I really wish we'd pull our shit together when it comes to train investment.

Everything goes by so fast—it was hard to stand up!!

I thought this cartoon was pretty cute, but also on point.

When I cleaned up Isaiah's apartment after he passed, one of the things I brought back was his cactus. Well it was three cacti in a single pot. Since then Audrey has split them up into their own pots, with the spider succulent glass base being the original. It is amazing to see how all three of the cacti are thriving on their own going on six years on.

Poppy and I have had some amazing rides this week. Just the perfect weather and conditions, with lots of smiling tourists making their way around the park. Poppy likes the hot dogs — me not so much.
