A Week of Being Kin Lane - July 14th, 2025
I found it difficult to maintain a grip this week. The world really gets to me right now, but this episode was mostly just being Kin, and I think it was the time of year downshifting into full summer holiday, but also the days beginning to get slightly shorter moving inevitably back towards fall and winter shook me. It’s me. It is rough operating slightly out of sync with the world around me.

We went for a burger at Restaurant Le B. on Monday—which was located in Greenwich Village. The burger was 45 day dry aged prime rib with a taste bud moving D’Afinois cheese. It was a delicious and juicy burger, with a heavy focus on the meat—which is something I really enjoy.

To wrap things up I had a crazy delicious Cambridge Burnt Cream with chanterelles, Tahitian vanilla, and armagnac. The structural scaffolding which I broke up into the custard created a nice crunchy and burnt contrast to the creamy custard that was enjoyable.

While on one of the daily Poppy Patrols in Central Park we ran into a friend from Virginia. I love the randomness of New York city and that I can come across someone I know in the millions of people in the city, and all of the tourists who are making their way around the park.

I can’t speak highly enough of our morning walks through Central Park. They are absolutely essential for me to get ready for my day. I struggle most mornings. It is just my thing. But our walk each morning allows me to move from wreckage to reconstruction each morning.

We did a lot of wandering in midtown this week. Poppy and I make our way through Times Square, but then we’ll head further south, east, or west depending on what the vibe is of each street. @cloehknyc snapped a great picture of Poppy and I rolling around midtown—not sure what we were looking at.

I love riding my bike. After driving to Maine and back, I found myself thinking again about my relationship with the automobile. I watch people drive around the city and I am thankful that I get to ride my bike around, use the subway, and walk wherever I need to go. I am much, much, happier.

Audrey and I are listening to Murderland, by Caroline Fraser. It is a wonderfully written story that connects lead and serial killers in the Pacific Northwest. As someone who grew up in Oregon and roamed Washington, the stories hit eerily close to home (pun intended), and continue to reinforce my belief that lead has contributed to how we go to where we are in this country.

I was captivated by an infographic from the Visual Capitalist about drug use that stated 75% of cannabis, cocaine, and heroin users are male. Which I think tells a lot about the male condition on this planet. My life has resembled this state, and I think we need to expect more. Raise the bar. Reduce the lead, and increase the number of books read.

We also ate at our go to Italian restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen this week. It was one of those nights where just you need good Italian comfort food. I went with the Gnocchi with a gorgonzola sauce. Just little pillows of heaven in a cream sauce. I needed those little pillows of goodness to land softly on as I end the week.

My work is keeping me busy. I am thinking lots of big picture thoughts about the API world. Which I really like. My partner Jerome is in France right now chasing some potential money for our startup while spending time with family. I am focused on our market research, go to market, and crafting our narrative that is centered on capabilities. But you will have to tune into the API Evangelist newsletter to learn about that.

I was worried about our gargoyle this week. They occupy the space in front of our door keeping any eye on things. Apparently they were also having a week. Or maybe they were recovering from the dark forces they were keeping out?
