March 2025
Deadlines have a tendency to...drool a bit. Yesterday, I finally handed over text for the final chapter of the RiverBank game to the editor, so today I can finally catch all the things up. Tomorrow is a teaching day—but then Tuesday becomes a flurry of editing and writing the final bits and bobs. (I’m not saying there are cards in this game, but there might be.) This is a weird time in the design, because I am still doing deep creative work, while also checking art and maps for revision, reviewing edits, and generaing promotional materials. We go live on Backerkit on 3/31, and I have my fingers crossed so hard for this. I’ve been seeing the art and maps, and it’s just luscious, especially Kathleen Jennings (who did the cover), and Svenja Muche (who did many, many single figures, all charming). I’m so grateful I have this to work on right now because otherwise, it would be very easy to get mired in depression, fear, and anxiety. If I didn’t have it—if all I had was finishing up this last semester and poking at some story or other, unsure about where I will land next year, the world might feel overwhelming. As it is, I have work to do, work I think matters as a safe space for people to recuperate when they need to. Even so, I have bad days or even weeks—but the work keeps getting done.
Workshops & classes
Get the news out! Barbara and I are circling in on the Novel Architects workshops for this summer, as well (because there isn’t enough going on). Dates are 6/29-7/12, and info is here. Deadline for applying is 4/15. Chris McKitterick’s (https://christopher-mckitterick.com/) short fiction workshop will be 6/15–28; and his deadline is a bit later.
Patreon
I love watching this: I have added a couple of new people since last month! Patreon matters more and more as I get closer to the end of my regula paychecks.
Appearances
I have confirmed WorldCon this year, but I won’t know about Gen Con until next month sometime. I expect to add another con in December.
Projects in progress
RiverBank TTRPG [designer and writer] text is in; now all the extra materials, and then the launch!
The American Tour [author] is still in limbo!
Dreamland RPG [writer and editor] is still scheduled to launch on Kickstarter early next year, I think; details as I get them. <https://www.dreamrpg.com/>
